Recommendations for a month in Portugal with children without a car

Have a great opportunity to be off work next summer. Hoping to head away for a month with my two children age 8 and 11. DH will join for the first week but then it’s me and the kids. I don’t really want to rent a car. I’d like to base myself in one place for a month. Was thinking possibly an Airbnb in Portugal but I’ve never been! Any suggestions of places or even better accommodation would be brilliant. Not tied to Portugal either so totally open to suggestions anywhere. Budget of about £3000 for accommodation for the month.

We did something similar but stayed in an apartment on a Eurocamp-style campsite in Spain. I chose the campsite because I feared that the dc could get bored without their friends and their usual toys, craft materials, bike etc… There’s only so much you can take with you! The campsite had a kids club so they got the chance to make friends with others their age, bike hire so we could venture a bit further afield, restaurant so I didn’t need to cook every night, on-site mini market, plus a pool and other sports activities to keep the dc occupied.
