Bus from Bilbao airport to San Sebastián.

I Will be arriving on a midweek evening in September. Is it necessary to book? I’m hesitating as flights can be delayed etc and I don’t want to book a specific time and they won’t accept the ticket on another bus.

We didn't book, definitely wasn't necessary. We did book our return when there though

I haven't done that journey but have used the provider, Alsa in other parts of Spain. It's just the normal public bus but be aware that they might not take cards on the bus, so make sure you have cash or have bought your tickets using the app, which you have to do by about 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

We did San Sebastian with Bilbao as a 2-centre holiday, so we took the bus from Bilbao to San Sebastian rather than from the airport, but we just went to the bus station to buy tickets when we wanted to travel. We had to wait maybe 30 mins. On the way back we went to the airport from San Sebastian and we did book the day before as we needed an early bus. San Sebastian is fabulous, enjoy x

Alsa is not the normal public bus, it’s the equivalent to National Express or Megabus in the UK. You should be fine not booking in advance - just do it as you land, and I doubt you’ll have to wait for a later one.
