Seville for New Year with two teens

Thinking about a 5 day mini break over New Year with two 14 year olds. Seville seems.to be popular on here at that time of the year.

Looking for advice on hotels and things to do and eat!

It’s not somewhere I would take teens at that time of year. Yes, it’s a lovely city, well-connected to other cities and invariably warm when it’s chilly elsewhere, but Isla Magica (the big draw for my teens) is closed that that time of year, and there’s not a huge amount of teen friendly New Year events or attractions in the city. We had a better time as a family in Berlin. The Christmas markets continue until NYE and my dc spent a lot of their Christmas money there (the markets are often cheaper and less busy after Christmas). Several of the markets have funfairs and ice skating too. My DC’s favourite was the one in Potsdamer Platz that had a giant ringo run.

Don’t go in Holy Week. It is amazing seeing all the processions but it was diff to navigate and many sites were closed.
i can’t wait to go back at a later date.

I would say 5 days is too long at that time of year. What would you be doing all day?

I know but if others are reading this, then they know too.

I think people suggest Seville because it has the best chance of good weather at that time on mainland Europe. But I agree with pp, there’s nothing much for teens unless they really like historic Spanish buildings.

Maybe Malaga would have more life ? Weather is similar I think. Or Marrakech?

In winter surely you are better off somewhere with more to do. Paris Berlin or Amsterdam? What would you do in Seville in winter for 5 days? We have been twice but in summer and 2 days was fine. S

Wander around the city seeing all the attractions, of which there are loads, eat tapas. It's also good to use as a base to do day trips by train to nearby places you can't fly to like Cordoba, Cadiz or smaller towns, go out in the countryside. Can also visit Jerez. We spent 4 days in Seville and is was nowhere near enough, there was loads we didn't have time for.

But if you're looking to go at New Year, try and be there on the evening of the 5th January if you can as that's the biggest part of Christmas in Spain and there will be a massive three kings parade.

@Bjorkdidit thanks for this. Exactly what I had in mind. We'd like to visit one or two places outside Seville for sure and possibly do a day's walking (ie hiking) if there's anywhere suitable outside the city.

If you have any specific recommendations aside from the obvious sites in Seville itself that would be v helpful.

Also can you recommend any particular hotel or area to stay in? I'd like somewhere small and traditional rather than a corporate style hotel if you know what I mean!

It's a long time since we went and I can't remember where we stayed. It's one of the places we'd like to go back to but not yet got round to it.

I just tend to look around Google maps to see the landscape and what's around. The area north of the city looks like hiking country but what's accessible depends on whether you have a car or are relying on public transport and how far you want to travel. We've only visited the Seville city but have been to more countryside areas around Malaga and Granada including the little villages but sometimes there's only 2 or 3 buses a day so you need to plan.

Sometimes you can go on tours, I've done this a couple of times in Lanzarote which might seem a bit touristy, but it's an easy, safe way to see the sights without having to drive or rely on infrequent public transport.

Having looked around I now want to do the Rio Tinto mines experience, for unbelievably niche professional reasons.

I've also got Aracena on my list of places to visit from Seville. That's got the ubiquitous 'castle on a hill' and is in national park country. I have this book, but haven't done the walks from it, generally because I've not been in the immediate areas.

@Bjorkdiditv helpful again so thank you. Bizarrely the Rio Tinto mine experience actually interests me. I walked part of the SW Coastal Path this summer and the area around Pendeen is heavy mining land. They are about to reopen a tin mine down there that will supply the UK with much needed tin for computers and other technology in the future!
