Best family holiday ideas for a special two-week summer trip

I've decided I want to go on holiday for my 40th birthday. DH, myself and Children (6&9 years old) July/August. for 2 weeks. For a number of reasons we don't go abroad very often and this will likely be the only time we can go for 2 weeks. So if you were having a once off 'best' family holiday where have you been or would you go?
Thinking about Disney Florida although we're not particularly theme park type people

We’re currently planning a trip to South East Asia for next Summer for a special break. We’ve also done incredible Eurocamps in Italy. It really depends on what type of holiday you like. My favourite family holiday so far has been; Rome for 3 nights, Eurocamp in Tuscany for 9 nights and then Venice for 2 nights. We all absolutely loved Rome and then chilling out on the Eurocamp afterwards with incredible wine and fab pools for the kids

Don’t go to Florida in our July or August, the heat will be unbearable. How about another part of the US? Or Canada or Cost Rica? Disneyland Paris is a good option

Florida is hot and humid, if you aren't really into themeparks I would save the money.

What kind of budget do you have? You could look into Costa Rica, it may rain but normally only short showers. Similar in some areas in Thailand and Vietnam.
We came across a company who does tours for families, I can't remember the name, sorry, but they did some in the Canadian rockies for example.

How about some outdoor related holiday in the alps if that's your thing. You could spur on a good hotel with great facilities and do organised activities.

I personally wouldn't go anywhere further south, it will just get hotter most summers.

Can I ask which eurocamp you stayed at?
DH and I have been to Rome pre children and loved it but hadn't really thought about it with kids

We just came back from Florence end of August and had 33-35 degrees each day. Each day we had a break back to our hotel around lunch time.

I personally wouldn't entertain a Med city break in high Summer. We only went because DD was desperate for Florence and no other time would work for the next 2 years.

An Italian colleague actually said the temperatures would be more high twenties so late in August but this year it seems all normal logic went out of the window.

We went to Hu Norcenni Girasole. It’s quite remote so we got a train from Rome to Florence and hired a car at Florence train station to drive to the Eurocamp. It’s our favourite Eurocamp so far and we’ve done quite a few.

our kids were 6 and 9 when we went to Rome and they absolutely loved exploring the city. We took their scooters which made it a little easier for little legs and had regular stops for pizza and ice cream.

I’d not do any med city in July or August either. Just unpleasant.

Id certainly not look at Florida either. Hot, humid and horrible.

You could look at the Netherlands or Nirthern France/Britany. We used to take our car and hire a huge caravan or a gite. Beaches, history and good food and a bit of French.

Further afield, western Canada but it will cost significantly more. We liked Eastern Canada too or you could look at Iceland. Plenty to see and do. We also took dc to South Africa at that age. Hardly any time difference and cheaper than Disney. Families Worldwide have great ideas.

Really depends what you like doing as a family. I’d go on a safari or to Costa Rica or Borneo but that may not be your thing.

We spent a week in the Austrian Alps this summer and really enjoyed it- my only regret was not adding a few extra days to chill on a lake. Could easily have turned it into a 10-14 day holiday. But like others said it depends on the sorts of things your family likes to do.
