Ideas for Copenhagen trip

Any advice for must dos for mid September trip to Copenhagen with dh and adult ds (22 and 23). we are there for 4 nights, 3 full days plus the afternoon of the first day and morning of the last day as the flight home is late afternoon

• Tivoli gardens
• the colourful harbour (Nyhavn)
• Christiania Freetown (fine to go yourself but book a tour if you need)

Definitely buy a Copenhagen card. It means you can pop into museums etc. you might not have otherwise bothered with just to see what they are about. Also covers your transport, boat trips etc. Worth every penny.

If you can go to the viking ship museum at roskilde only about 30 min train ride away.

We ended up eating most of our meals at Reffen Copenhagen Street Food Market. It was fantastic - so many vendors, huge variety, great quality, very reasonable prices, lovely atmosphere.

The Design Museum is well worth a visit.

Get the train out to The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art - huge rambling art museum in the most amazing coastal setting.

We ate one night at Krebsegaarden - amazing food.

Train out to Malmo, sample the delights of the Disgusting Food Museum!
Tivoli Gardens is great fun.
We also enjoyed the zoo, but travelled with younger children.

Take the free lift to the top of Copenhill for great views of the city then walk back down the nature trail at the side of the ski slope. Copenhill is the iconic shaped waste recycling plant.
Another vote for the design museum.
Use the water buses to get about especially to eat at Reffen.
Islands Brygge Havnebadet is the big swim spot in the centre with diving platforms and 3-4 ‘pools’. There are loads of swimming spots that are less formal too in and around the very clean harbour areas.

The boat trip included in the Copenhagen card is very good. Loved the city.

The Cathedral of Roskilde is a nice trip out of Copenhagen.
Tivoli.
A boat trip or The Harbour Bus.
The churches in central city - visit Holmens, Vor Frue, Marmor, Trinitatis (and the Round Tower), Albans.
La Glace or the bakery of Sankt Peders Stræde. One of the open sandwich restaurants.
A ballet or opera at The Royal Theatre.

Yes I agree with PP, we bought my son and his girlfriend Copenhagen cards, they said it was great, and visited attractions that they didn’t plan too, they just checked on the app what was close by etc. They found eating out very expensive, their hotel was near a shopping mall and they ate some meals in the food court there which was better value. They bought pastries for breakfast. They had a fantastic trip. Enjoy.

All good suggestions. We enjoyed our day out in Malmo, quite a sleepy place but pleasant for a wander

I am convinced that the best coffee I’ve had anywhere is in Copenhagen. Do seek out the Danish coffee shops. Worth going just for the coffee IMO!

I will say it’s expensive so if possible go with a decent spends budget

Eating is very expensive, we did self catering for breakfast and one dinner then got food to go from the 24-7 stores which did really good options and pastries etc. we bought a multi day transport pass online which saved the hassle of having to keep buying tickets and definitely worked out cost effective as we used it on trams (including from the airport), buses and the river bus service.

DD went last month. She loved Copenhagen Zoo, and all the main sights. She said she could live there 😱 she was so taken with the place!

I enjoyed the Museum of the Danish Resistance

Depends what you like and how much walking will you enjoy.

Dragor area with harbor, views from the fortress and option to walk around the coast is really nice and quiet.

+1 to taking a central boat tour

If leaving Copenhagen
Roskilde museum of viking sails would be the one for me, cathedral is a bonus.

Or, if going for The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humblebaek, contiue to Helsingor for castle Kronborg and Danish Maritime Museum (there is a standalone food court next to it)

We hired a little electric boat and toured round on it. Was fantastic is weather allows

YY to Design Museum, Tivoki Gardens and the I changing of the guard.

The Little Mermaid is very small indeed, and rather disappointing.

So many ideas. Thank you everyone!! We are fairly active and are used to walking every although we have considered hiring cycles. My ds are also into vintage shopping and record shops so plan to incorporate some time for mooching

Its a very bicycle friendly place, so do hire bikes if you get a chance!

Check the local cycling rules - afaik there is a logical but unusual "no direct left turn" rule.

It’s a lovely walk along the waterside up to the Little Mermaid, which is usually swamped by tour buses but it’s iconic so worth the trip out to it.

See if there are any concerts in Tivoli Gardens when you’re there. Be annoying to plan to visit them on Tuesday to find there’s music on the Monday!

Most music arrangements are on Fridays.

Lots of boat trips go to the little mermaid. It’s underwhelming! Royal palaces, (the tapestry room is outstanding at Christiansborg!) vintage shopping, Danish brand shopping, Design museum, Tivoli - ok but depends what you like.

Malmo ? Not sure I’d bother. Lund is better if you reality want to go to Sweden. Helsingor and the castle might be worth a trip and it’s in Denmark.

Copenhagen has a good underground system. A bit left field but DD liked the David collection but you need to like its somewhat eclectic contents. It’s a bit out of the ordinary.

The meat packing area has loads of restaurants and a drug centre.
