Trier- things to do and wine

I'm going to Trier for a few days in early October. Apart from the ancient Roman stuff, which I will definitely be looking at, what else should I not miss?

What's the best place to appreciate the local wine? Are there particular wine bars that are really good?

I'm travelling by train, so I'll be able to bring some wine home.

I don't have anything specific to recommend as we just focused on the Roman stuff ...which was fabulous..but I loved Trier (and the local wine!)

I could add that the train journey down to Koblenz then up to Wiesbaden was also lovely 😍 and wiesbaden has hot springs

(i think we just bought our wine in the supermarket/minimarket!)

Oh and allow plenty of time for the museum! Like, a LOT.

I'm spending a few days there then going to Cologne, so I don't know I'll have time do go to Koblenz or Wiesbaden unfortunately. Another time...

Sounds like you might take the train as far as Koblenz before turninng left? (depend which way you are going, German railwas are a proper network unlike our hopelessly London-centric lot)🙄 -- Spectacular ride if so 😃
