Where to keep valuables when going in pool or sea

My DH and I have always left mobiles etc in bag on/under lounger when we go in the pool or sea but I'm travelling for a week with my mum and she thinks this sounds dodgy and that we won't both be able to go in the water together. It's made me wonder if we've been to trusting in the past but I can't see what else you would do? One of those clear pouches round your neck for your phone? I've never seen anyone using one so can I ask what you all do?

I leave my phone in the safe in the hotel. All I have on me is the room key, but often that’s a wrist thing now, and a small amount of cash just in case. I’m too anxious so I take very little out with me.

We usually leave our valuables locked in the hotel safe and only take what we need to the pool/beach. If we both want to swim, a waterproof phone pouch or small dry bag is probably the safest option. Better to be cautious, especially in busy places!

Around hotel pool we take the risk and both go in with the kids. Gated entry and lifeguards lots of hotel guests around so are more trusting. At a public beach take it in turns to go in with kids and one stays with valuables. Not worth the risk. Just got back from Lake Garda and paddleboards hire man at the beach was telling us there had been thefts on the beach. A shame.

Just leave the stuff covered if by the pool but we don’t really have that sort of holiday anymore now that dd older. We have part beach days in that we go to the beach after our day out or if we come across a nice beach while we are out. We bought a waterproof pouch but other half dorsn’t really trust them despite us testing at home. We need something that will take a phone, car and apartment keys and a little bit of cash. I’m quite liking the look of those fake sunscreen bottles !

I've not done it but if no one could watch the bags I would hide valuables under clothes and leave the empty bag on top of the lounger. Theft is likely to be a quick grab and run so if they take the empty bag that's fine!

I must go somewhere very honest (Italy), because I leave my purse, phone and keys etc in my beach bag when I go for a swim. Our sunbeds are left unattended for ages if we’re all in the water. Anyone attempting to steal would be seen by the surrounding folk.
