Can anyone recommend somewhere in St Peter Port (Guernsey) for a relaxing afternoon by myself?

I've got a long weekend away in Guernsey in early October and I have an afternoon to myself before my friends get there as our flights arrive at different times.

I just wondered if anyone has anywhere they can recommend where I could pass a nice relaxing afternoon? Ideally with good views and on or near St Peter Port. I want to rest before we get busy catching up!

Well, Guernsey is very small, so you could get anywhere on the island in an afternoon… It depends how you like to relax. There’s Victor Hugo’s house ( you have to book in advance) - it’s an organised tour, with views from the upstairs rooms! You could do a boat trip to Herm ( a bit weather dependent). You could swim at a beach or outdoor pools at La Valette (water will be very cold!) . There are various cafes with views if you want to sit, eg cafe at Candie Gardens, or at Les Cotils. There are lovely little cafes at loads of the beaches, with good bus links from St Peter Port.

I know it's small, I just want to make my life very easy on the first day by not travelling about much. I
am thinking just a nice cafe with sea views and comfortable seats. I don't know why,.I think life is just so busy at the moment and I feel the need to pause (particularly before a busy weekend exploring the island with friends)

If you walk up to the bathing pools there’s a lovely cafe with beautiful views.
There’s a fair few cafes in the town, but the views aren’t as good. There’s some stunning places to go, do you have a car?

No, no car. Well, my friend is flying in and then has use of a relatives car so we will use that the rest of the weekend. It's why I want to stay fairly local to St Peter Port if possible, although I don't mind a short bus or taxi ride.

the Buses are regular and pretty easy to use. If you want to stay in St Peter port then the bathing pools is the best view. It’s about 10-15 walk.

In town you can have a wander and see what you fancy- I'm a big fan of Café Lola, Crêpe Maison, Café Emilia, Dix Neuf, and others! In town you're also close to Candie Museum, which has a café on site as well as some beautiful (and free!) gardens to look around. Others have mentioned the Victor Hugo house, which is definitely worth a look around if you get the chance.

Things may have changed as I've not been for 2 years.
Creasey's coffee shop at the top of the store has great views as does The Terrace on the harbour (great food).
Christie's if you can get a window/terrace seat, there is also a pizza place - Rosso

The Candie museum tea room is nice and the museum is small but interesting.

Christies is a great place to eat.

Or you could have a spa treatment at the OGH hotel while you are waiting. But if the island is new to you, just wandering around St Peter Port will while away a couple of hours.

If you change your mind about getting a bus you could go to Pembroke Bay, the bus takes about 25 minutes. There's a nice cafe there at the Beach House.
