Singapore or Kula Lumpur

Doing a trip in mid-late April from London to either :

Kula Lumpur/Cambodia/Vietnam or
Singapore/Cambodia/Vietnam

the KL gives me 7 hrs in Singapore airport but I’d obv not see the place. I fancy both so cannot decide.

I will have 3 days for KL or Singapore so which did you prefer and why?

I much preferred Singapore, so much to see and do, and very clean and safe. I had a bit of culture shock in KL - very busy with people, much more gritty than Singapore. Some people would probably prefer that! So depends what you like really.

Both are amazing cities but Singapore definitely has my heart for a three day break, it’s the perfect amount of time.

I’d do KL another time along with the rest of Malaysia - it deserves its own holiday!

I agree with the others, for 3 days I'd go to Singapore. The franca lingua is English so signage to everything includes English, not that KL is tricky though but I agree its busier and grittier. The MRT (railway system) is clean, on time and cheap the last time I was there. I find it a sanitised Asian country. Stiff fines for dropped litter or cigarette ash but it means its very clean. It is more expensive for most hotels though, but for 3 days, it would be my choice.

I loved both. KL is definitely grittier but we had phenomenal food there, and it was a brilliant trip. It felt so cultured. Singapore was great too but I found it less gripping. It is super clean, everyone is friendly, everything is always on time... I don't have anything bad to say about it and I'd go back, but it's a very different vibe.

I loved Singapore, was there for 4 days in July. The airport is awesome and a mini break in itself, lol

We have literally just this minute booked the flights our big summer epic trip to Malaysia next summer.

I feel a bit faint tbh - they were the most expensive flights we’ve ever bought and it’s all a bit surreal. I therefore have no helpful advice but am hoping this thread is a good omen! I hope you have an amazing time whatever you choose!

Wouldn't want to spend longer in KL than 24 hours. If memory serves there's a big market, a giant flagpole they are inexplicably excited to show tourists and not much else. The food is great but unless you're a serious foodie that will travel to a boring city just to eat great street food, it's not your answer for 3 days.

Malaysia in general is a lovely place and I imagine KL is a great place to live. It's just boring to visit.

Hi, did Singapore last November on way to Thailand and KL on way back. Singapore is fantastic. We stayed at The Clan , perfectly situated. Could stay at Marina Bay but overpriced and no soul.
Went to every attraction, walked miles. Give Sentosa a miss. You will love it

We did two weeks in Singapore for my birthday we stayed in Little India at one farrer hotel, excellent location and lovely hotel if on a moderate budget

Stated in paradox merchant court plus marina bay - just to swim in that pool

Echo @Cheeseagainand @HalfasleepChrisintheMorning, we stayed at the Paradox last week. Nice hotel, excellent breakfast and really convenient both for walking and the MRT.

I think you’ve chosen correctly OP, KL is a shopping centre. I would however urge you to spend as much time in Vietnam as the country deserves, it’s wonderful.

Cant recommend a hotel as it a few years ago we went - it did have a revolving tower restaurant though!

I have not been to Singapore for 30 years, but loved it. Immaculately clean, and a great city to visit. I have been to KL twice in the past two years, and also love it, so can only speak for KL really. It is almost certainly less "spotless and sanitised" than Singapore, and I also think 2-3 days and you are done. But, it has some beautiful buildings along with some massively high ones (the colonial bit in the centre and some of the modern ones) and markets are good enough, hotels are very cheap, transport is good, the food is good. It is safe. The only moan is the airport is miles out. Ubers are very cheap. KUL is cheaper flights.

I preferred Singapore

Stay at the Fullerton Hotel. Great location, beautiful historic building, superb service.
Singapore is one of my favorite cities.

I prefer Singapore

Suggest book hotel near to an under ground metro/train station.
Buy train ticket from 711 type shop

Visit Gardens by the Bay, the domes & gardens
Museums

Definitely Singapore, loved our 5 days there last year, we stayed in MBS and it was wonderful. Spent 2 weeks in KL for my sons sport a few years ago wasn't impressed, wouldn't jump to go back but Singapore in a heartbeat

I thought Singapore was really dull compared to KL. We stayed in both cities when travelling to/from Borneo.

Oh more helpfully, last time we stayed at the Goodwood Park Hotel near Orchard. You can get some quite good deals there and it is lovely. In a heritage building and fantastic location. Two lovely pools and all low rise. We actually stayed in their Park Lane Suites which is basically a duplex apartment and the extra space was brilliant. As was big fridge and washing facilities and big balcony. Would certainly stay again. Enjoy your trip!
