Currently on an AI holiday. There is every type of cocktail, mocktail etc on the menu. I normally just drink wine but feel I should try something.. recommendations?

Do you like very sweet drinks or not? Lots of cocktails are rather sweet

AgnesMcDoo · 27/08/2026 15:25

I like working my way through the cocktails.

But if I had to pick a few

Strawberry Daquiri
Pina Colada
Gin & Tonic

Crikeyalmighty · 27/08/2026 15:27

I would skip wine on AIs - it’s invariably nasty stuff unless very very high end - usually safer on G&ts, vodka and tonics etc if included

Sparkletastic · 27/08/2026 15:27

Mojito
Caipirinha
margarita

only if they are using proper ingredients though not nasty premixes. If the latter then stick to wine!

Lindy2 · 27/08/2026 15:33

Pina Coladas, if made well, are heavenly.

Part of the fun of AI though is working your way through the cocktail menu and trying some new things.

namechange269 · 27/08/2026 15:34

no don’t really like sweet stuff.

I've never drunk cocktails, mainly because I don't like sweet drinks, but at a recent family wedding DC and their partners were all drinking cocktails and suggested a Spicy Margarita. Wow, it nearly blew my socks off!

DarkchocolateAndtea · 27/08/2026 15:36

Depends how it is made but pina colada is heaven - if it is made with icecream or cream. It tends to have a whiter thicker appearance when made this way. Enjoy rest of your holiday op! 🍹

no don’t really like sweet stuff.

In that case, maybe try something like a Negroni or a margarita, or a mojito but specify less sugar

GreenFootstool · 27/08/2026 15:40

Not too sweet and wine based:

Mimosa
Sangria
Kir Royale
Aperol spritz (very bitter)
Dry Martini (very strong as not much mixer)
Negroni

Not wine based:
Margarita
Old Fashioned
Bloody Mary
Mojito

That's where I'd be heading anyway!

Chaarlene · 27/08/2026 15:41

The only acceptable answer to this is a Margarita (spicy marg also permitted).

Or a fizz (cremant or champers or English sparkling wine preferred).

Or, if it is particularly summery and you want to feel a bit party, a Hugo Spritz.

Anything else is just a waste of time (imho)

unabashedopossum · 27/08/2026 15:44

I like and old fashioned, or a simple highball. I don’t have a massive sweet tooth.

A gin martini (with a twist not an olive, olives are gross) is another favourite.

StylesSluttyShorts · 27/08/2026 15:48

Spicy margs are my favourite, so that's what I'd have.

Linenspots · 27/08/2026 15:53

A big, juicy Hooogo Spritz for me please

gingercat02 · 27/08/2026 16:09

I like short cocktails so Martinis (espresso is my fav) or Margarita or a Cosmopolitan are always good.
A spritz is nice and summery if you want a longer drink

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 27/08/2026 16:10

Espresso martini 👌

namechange269 · 27/08/2026 16:35

Agree or caprihina without sugar.

Negroni can be very bitter but my DH drinks those

Negroni isn’t wine based. It’s def bitter though

gnomeparty · 27/08/2026 18:25

Mojito, spiced rum and coke, blood orange gin and tonic.

thetinsoldier · 27/08/2026 18:30

A Long Island Iced Tea
Martini Espresso
hugo spritz

FairyBatman · 27/08/2026 18:48

At an AI I like to start at the top and work my way down, then once I have found a couple of favourites I know what to order all week!

Ineffable23 · 27/08/2026 18:57

A negroni
Or a French 75
Or a whisky sour
Or a grapefruit gin fizz
Or indeed most gin fizzes

I think those are my favourite not-sweet cocktails.

Catarinabella · 27/08/2026 18:59

I loved a Negroni when I was on my cruise, not too sweet

SewYellowLikeButter · 27/08/2026 19:12

Pina colada.
