Anyone been to Madagascar?

Has anyone been to Madagascar ?

We’re thinking of going for around 10 nights, mixture of beach, wildlife, culture.

The one thing putting us off is the cost of flights. Our French is also not great.

Hi we went there for our honeymoon!
We went for 3 week and travelled east to west. Best holiday we've ever had!! The variety that you get is well worth the cost of the flights, and the food, scenery and wildlife is amazing.

My French is not great, but we managed, a lot of people do speak English or local languages anyway

Yes, but about 15 years ago. Arrived into Tana; took a canoe for several days down a big river to the west coast camping on beaches; 4x4 down the coast. A great trip!

One of the poorest countries in the world.Infrastructure is not good. Poor roads, intermittent power cuts but still an amazing place.

I've been and wouldn't recommend. It's very hard to travel around as the roads are in a poor state and it's been massively deforested so driving around there's a lot of bare red earth hills. If you're after a combination of beach and rainforest I'd probably look at Costa Rica or one of the Indonesian islands.
