Spa weekend abroad

I would like to do a spa weekend abroad around February/March time for my 40th with some friends. Easy flights from the Midlands. Relatively cheap due to friends budgets.

any recommendations?

I keep seeing Therme Bucharest coming up but not sure..

Therme Bucharest is more like a theme park imo. Extremely busy!

Baden-Baden. Beautiful little town with 2 public spas.

@momager22this is the feel I got when looking at put me off.
basically want Eden Hall sort of experience but abroad I guess. Just a really good spa with treatments

Poland and Estonia have big wellness culture and will be more affordable. However will be cold at that time of year and I have no experience but that's where I'd look.

There's also the Arab baths type places in the Andalusian cities. It's not quite the same experience but the weather should be better and lots to do.

The Vabali chain of hotels and spas in Germany is amazing. My favourite is the one in Hamburg but not sure about flights from the Midlands.

Why abroad? Spas are usually an indoor activity so wouldn’t it be better to save the flight money?

@bananaobamaif you have any in the UK to recommend please do…. But abroad just seems a bit different and can combine it hopefully with some other site seeing. If went abroad I wasn’t looking for a spa hotel but more a day spa to combine with a day of other things.
I think Ragdale Hall is overrated so wouldn’t go back there.

Have you tried Manor House spa alsager if midlands? I’ve done that in Jan and was lovely.

A second recommendation for Baden-Baden, beautiful town with a lovely spa. We flew from Stansted though, not sure on midlands flights.

It’s often cheaper to get a flight and a spa, than many of the spas in the uk. The one near me is £300 per night.

We only went for 24 hours, but could have spent longer. Flew from Stansted in the evening and just stayed at the airport BnB on Baden Baden airport grounds for ease as we arrived late. Next morning got the bus to the town and went to Caracalla Spa. The spa had indoor and outdoor pools, a steam room, hot hubs, other smaller pools at different temps. We stayed downstairs as it’s swimwear. Upstairs in the sauna area which is textile free and has an extra charge. We only had two hours at the spa, as only there for a day and wanted to see other stuff, but could have happily stayed all day. We had lunch in the town, very picturesque place. In the afternoon we got the bus to the funicular (only 10 mins on the bus). Funicular takes you up into the Black Forest, it was really beautiful up there and a nice cafe for cake. Had dinner back in the town before back to the airport for our 11pm flight home. I booked it as the flights were £40 each and fancied somewhere different. I was pleasantly surprised with what a beautiful place it was and the spa (which I think was €20 each for two hours and only slightly more for the day).

We didn’t have treatments, so can’t comment on the quality or price. Though the spa has a website you could check. We went in May half term and it was not at all busy in the spa on a weekday morning.

@mumneedsif being naked bothers you, the Roman baths in Baden-Baden has a textile (swimwear) day.

I'd recommend Weinstube Baldreit or M10 Badisches Restaurant for food.

There's a nice walk up to the old Schloss. Details are on the tourist information website. I did that in the morning, spa in the afternoon.

I think for the travel time for a quick trip Baden will be out from the Midlands. Thank you though.

Why abroad? There are spas everywhere, you don't need to unnecessarily fly somewhere.

"Abroad" isn't a place. If you want to visit somewhere, go for it , but if you don't know where you want to go, what's the point?

We went to Buxton Crescent hotel & spa after covid lock down. We had the place to ourselves. We stayed 1 night in the hotel.
It was peaceful.

Then a walk up a local hill to a folly tower.

I strongly recommend Iceland !

Short flight

We stayed a few days & did the Golden Circle tour, saw Northern lights.
We went to the Blue Lagoon spa in the snow, however there are plenty of spas & pools to choose from.

Some people go for 1 day only & go to the Blue Laggon spa & fly back the same day.

I won’t ever go to a spa in the UK again, they are insanely expensive and often quite crap. Check out the QC Terme chain - mostly in Italy. Amazing value for a spa day, €60 ish per person obviously without any treatments but they are in a totally different league to UK ones. Really nice buffet lunch with unlimited booze if that is your thing for €30 extra. Plus, if you go within 7 days of your birthday you get in totally free and gratis (book in advance tho)

There are large semi- public owned spas in Titisee and Munich, as well - both of these share common branding (not QC). Titisee one is naked in parts, mind you if that bothers you. I think it’s about €40 for the day. Nearest airports are Basel and Baden Baden. German spa punters are VERY demanding and have high expectations and expectations of value for money.

Milan Malpensa is a very cheap airport to fly into for the QC ones, if you avoid the February half term. I like the QCs at San Pellegrino Terme and Bormio Bagni Nuovi in particular but there are also ones nearer to Milan. I wasn’t so keen on the one at Pre st Didier.
