South Africa safari & Zanzibar what do I need to know ? We Leave in 3 weeks

We are staying at zebra crossing and elephant crossing lodges then The Mora in Zanzibar,

We loved Zanzibar and enjoyed a meal at The Rock, very insta, but a great location.

That’s a very vague question!

Make sure you get your yellow fever jab in good time for Zanzibar. Also the online visas can take time, though you can get them on arrival but there can be long queues.

And mobile phones don’t work in Zanzibar, so if you need a phone/data away from WiFi, you will need a Tanzanian/international sim.

Learn a few words of Swahili for Zanzibar. They will be impressed and treat you well.

Our safari was really cold for morning drives. I needed my lightweight puffer jacket
open vehicles - a hat or scarf to stop the hair blowing! A beanie was good to cover my ears.

What ages are you all?

Is there anything in particular you are worried about/thinking about/would like to know about?

Haven't you been sent guidance by your travel company?
No bright colours, take clothing for cold mornings, keep luggage to a minimum (most lodges do laundry).
Don't take any valuables.
You'll have to check whether you are in a malaria zone, and medicated accordingly.

To be honest, 3 weeks in advance is a bit late to be checking this stuff!

So sorry for the vague post, we are both in our 50s, we are upto date on vaccines got malaria tablets, decided against rabies vaccine, Is there anything we should see do while we are there ?

I don’t know that part of SA at all but, in general, I would recommend a walking safari if offered at all. It is a completely different feeling to being on a long wheelbase 4x4.

It is worth having a decent camera with a couple of lenses if you want to take good pictures.

In Zanzibar, a day in Stone Town is worth it, taking in the market and the old slave market (very sad but important). Jozani nature reserve is also worth the trip. It is a rare mangrove environment with a type of monkey which is pretty much only seen there (I think).
