Tenby in Southern Wales

Has anyone been recently?

We usually holiday in Cornwall (St Ives or St Mawes), but it’s getting a bit too busy and expensive (!)

We’re thinking of going to Tenby for a week instead. I have been many years ago when it seemed nice but lots of stag and hen nights, but this was early 00s so I presume it’s tarted up a bit.

We went in March, and the town centre has hugely improved over the last 10 years since we last visited. In fact, we were wary about going back as it had got so run down. There are some nice bars/coffee shops and the shops have improved. We also loved Saundersfoot, some quirky little shops and lovely harbour to sit and watch the world go by.

Tenby is beautiful, all of Pembrokshire is! Saundersfoot is great too, have fun!

Agree that Tenby is lovely but so is the whole coast line around Pembrokeshire. I recommend the beaches around Freshwater east and west, Broadhaven etc. stunning.

We visited for the first time this summer (long weekend) and I absolutely loved it. I’m not Welsh, but do have a family link to the town which perhaps makes me a bit more enthusiastic than most. I wish we had visited years ago. Even without the family link, I think we still would have had a lovely time, the town is very pretty and the beaches are lovely. We ate delicious food in delightful restaurants, and everyone we met was friendly. We’re planning a return visit; admittedly this is in part due to the family connection, but also because we enjoyed our visit and would like to spend more time there.

Tenby is really lovely. Pretty town and lovely beaches.

Lets itself down by charging people to go to the toilet.

To be fair, it’s a massively popular tourist town. We went every year until I was 16. I don’t think you need to have a family link to love it, hundreds of thousands of people do!

I would heartily recommend St Davids and Whitesands Bay.

A friend sent me some photos of their stay there. It looked really nice.

It’s one of my happy places. Just wish it wasn’t a 4.5 hour drive with teens

Tenby and Pembrokeshire are beautiful, especially if you like walking
not sure it is cheaper than Cornwall though

West wales / Pembrokeshire is my happy place. It’s stunning and much less busy than Cornwall. Tenby is nice but further along the coast St David’s is absolutely stunning. The beaches and coastline is gorgeous and a very good burgeoning foodie scene too

Absolutely fair, and completely understand. I was more surprised that we had never been before despite the family link, as I’m in my late 40s. Now want to encourage everyone to visit!

Went to Wales in my youth, rediscovered it 4 years ago & been back to Pembrokeshire each year since. Due to go beginning of September for a break & can't wait! Tenby is the first port of call our first day there.

It is lovely, very touristy in the height of summer but calms down considerably when the schools go back! Beautiful villages and coastline surrounding it too.
Just don’t book for the week/weekend over 13th Sept - as someone said up thread, it’s IronMan Wales and it will be heaving and accommodation prices massively inflated.

Tenby is nice but very busy and parking can be an issue. We prefer Saundersfoot which is lovely and a bit calmer.

Saundersfoot is lovely, agreed! There is a nice walk through a tunnel to a pub called Wisemans Bridge Inn, it’s amazing there, right on the beach

West wales all along that coast is beautiful.

My partner is from the area. He intended to take me on a day trip to Tenby last summer, but it was so busy when we arrived we went straight to the boat for caldey island and spent the day there instead.

The little bit I saw was pretty, but far too busy for me to want to consider a holiday there.
