Flying to Thailand for a Week

We enjoy Thailand. Mainly for the food, good service, nice architecture etc.

We're thinking of going to Koh Samui for a week. This would be direct flight to Bangkok and then connect onto Bangkok Airways to fly to Samui. In total it's 9 nights as you fly overnight both ways, but would be 7 nights in a 5* hotel.

Anyone done this? We'd be going Economy.

Sounds good to me. As you’re in Econ, I’d make sure to have comfy loungewear, decent headphones and eye masks and try to rest on the plane. I’d probably do 2 nights in bkk then 5 in a resort or similar…

Personally I think a week isn’t long enough for such a long flight. We did it years ago, flew into Bangkok then drove to Pattaya, 2 hours drive, we were away for 8 days in total and we thought it was just too long a flight for 8 days. We also flew economy and didn’t get any sleep but that might’ve just been me not being able to sleep on a flight (I still don’t).

I did almost this, only with 2 nights in Bangkok before flying to Koh Samui. It was perfect, a week is more than enough to see everything in Koh Samui. It actually was one of the most relaxing holidays I’ve had.

I would. Just get a decent neck pillow and sleep. I like the TRTL one

EstherGreenwood63 · 22/08/2026 13:39

No. Ten nights would be my minimum for Thailand. But ymmv.

We once flew to Japan for 8 days. It’s all the time we had. It was that or nothing.

A friend flew to her friend in NZ for a week. Again, that or nothing, so….

We did 7 nights in Thailand in March (plus another for the overnight flight). It didnt feel like too far at all. We are going back for 2 weeks next year, but if one was all that was on offer I'd do it again.

It seems a long way to go just for a week but if you're just staying in one hotel rather than travelling around and seeing something of the country then I'm sure it will be fine.

Sounds lovely. The shortest we usually do is 9-10 nights but if this is all you have it will still be great especially since you’re smart about your itinerary not trying to do too many islands in a short time.

Of course sleeping on the plane makes a big difference if you can! Long haul flights airlines usually give you pillows and blankets (although sometimes you have to ask). I find a comfortable eye mask that doesn’t press on your face and ear plugs make a big difference with all the noises and lights. I have this one but any 3D eye mask should do

I did it but transferred in Singapore because Bangkok airport exhausts me 😂it was great, just make sure you deal with the jet lag day 1 and don't nap!

princesspadam · 25/08/2026 12:22

I would and have

ive done Hong Kong for 4 & 5 nights
bangkok -4 nights
vegas - 4 nights
phuket - 9 nights
japan - 8 nights

go for it

ewwdavid99 · 25/08/2026 17:29

I’ve done Singapore for 7 nights, 9 nights including travel. It was totally fine although we did accidentally sleep away a whole morning through jet lag!

Does Thialand want you to visit? Certain parts suffer from severe overtourism.
