Has anyone been asked to pay a fine for breaking holiday accommodation rules?
I have never caused any problems in any holiday accommodation, but am familiar with damage deposits for actual financial loss, such as breaking something, etc.
I was looking at accommodation on VRBO recently and several listings mentioned fines.
Some of the ‘fines’ did not relate to any type of financial loss. One in particular was for making a noise outside of ‘quiet hours’ It was a privately owned detached house, so no superior landlord to impose a financial penalty which the property owner would need to pay and recover from the renter.
I tend to keep to the rules, so doubt I would have a problem, but other terms were off putting, so I didn’t book.
I can’t see any way of enforcing the payment of a fine unless it could be deducted from the damage deposit, which seems a bit of a stretch.
