We’re lucky enough to be off to Japan for 2 weeks in October myself DH and two 22 year olds.
Looking for advice on hotel location in Tokyo.
Got a hotel on hold in Shibuya - appreciate it’s hectic and central but we live in london so are kind of used to it on a much smaller scale ! Will be 5 nights with shopping/ temples / sky tree in Tokyo and day trips to Mount fuji from there.
my thinking is it’s good for DS if we want to retire to bed and there’s still their usual night animals ! Would rather there is stuff for them at walkable distance. Will say in Ginza on way back for a night before flying home.
any thoughts welcome on whether we’re mad to want to stay so centrally ! 🙏

We stayed in the hotel monday in Asakusa for the Tokyo section of our trip .
Our children were 22 and 25 at the time.
Interesting, bustling area but not as hectic as Shibuya .
Ginza excellent for shopping. We stayed in Kawasaki for our last night as it was near the airport .

Shibuya sounds like a good choice, especially if your 22-year-olds want restaurants, shopping and somewhere lively in the evenings. I’d probably prioritise being close to a station, as Tokyo is so much easier when you can get back to the hotel quickly after a long day. Ginza for the final night sounds lovely too.

Our last stop in Tokyo was in the Shinsen part of Shibuya, which was slightly out of the way but walking distance from it. It was handy because we got the train 1 stop into Shibuya station, or walked there. It was VERY handy to have all the main stores there for our final Japan week because we knew we'd buy a lot. Walking across Shibuya Crossing daily felt a good, and the proximity gave us time to properly browse the department stores there and in Shinjuku.

If I went again, I would choose Asakusa, Ginza or Nakameguro for different reasons; food options, shopping or slower-pace, respectively. FYI, Nakameguro is a short walk from Shibuya, but is somewhere your 22 year olds might find 'trendier'.

Shibuya is the perfect choice. We also stayed in Shinjuku but Shibuya was favourite for restaurants, ease of the station, yoyogi park etc

No but we went to Hakone area where there’s enough to see and do if you stay a couple of nights. We stayed at the Park Hotel in Ginza. We found it a good location but the transport system is ace.
