I’m thinking of going to Tromso in September (have had enough of the heat!) and I’d like some advice please. Are 5 nights / 6 days too much? Any tours you’d recommend? We’re not particularly active but can walk for hours as long as it’s not uphill… restaurants? Thanks!!

We went in February. It was amazing, so much snow! We did a reindeer safari and a small bus day tour out to some villages and fijords with hot chocolate and pastries on the beach. Booked with Get Your Guide I think. DH did the sauna/sea plunge and we had an afternoon at a leisure centre with an outdoor pool. Visited the Cathedral and got the cable car up the mountain - choose a clear day, the views are spectacular. We stayed until it went dark, was about minus ten I think. The city itself is small enough to walk round, it has the Northernmost McDonalds too.
The real magic was at night, we saw the NL every night just from our apartment and at the harbour- didn’t bother with a tour.
We have travelled all over and it is one of my very favourite places. Having been there in winter with the snow, the NL and the short days made it so magical. Not sure how different it will be in September.
Not cheap to eat out but food was good.

Should say we did four days and it was about right.

It’s a bit long. Probably too early for the northern lights but it has good restaurants, Sami culture and a great cathedral. There might be boat trips but make sure the boat has an inside cabin. It might also rain. I would probably prefer Oslo or Stockholm. More to see.

I went in March a couple of years ago and fell completely in love with the place - it's just wonderful! It's on my list to go back to one day - enjoy!!
