has anybody tried and tested baby monitors in hotels?

Do they work? Which one is the best?

i had the bog standard toby one with me in a hotel whicxh had the dining sub ground floor but not completely undergrd if you can understand that, dd was on first floor quite a bit away and it worked ok, left it with the waiting staff and they called me when she cried
