Anyone planning next year's holiday around the next solar eclipse?

As per title...Is anyone else basing where they are going to holiday next year based on the next eclipse?

We've booked for Southern Spain in the path of totality and are very much looking forward to it.

Egypt would be more of a spectacular due to a longer period of totality, but I don't want to brave the heat and other logistics.

If the weather conspires against us, we'll still have a nice break. I'm aware it could still be cloudy! Just as it was for us where I live at the peak yesterday.

Yes just booked a cruise, viewing off Tangier.

Not for future hols but in back 2017 we were going to the US anyway so planned a detour to SC for the total eclipse then.

Tempted to book the same. I can get a 2 week holiday in Almeria for £30 if I book now but the problem is getting the time off work.

I’d have to renew my passport as well so that’s an additional cost. If I want to make it a family holiday and not just a view the Eclipse by myself event, probably closer to £600 with having to get 4 new passports.

I am kicking myself really for not knowing in advance about this year's one and the total eclipse being where it was. I've had trips to Majorca and Salou this year, and could easily have arranged them for the right time if I'd known.

I only twigged while watching footage yesterday that there was another total eclipse just next year in a) the Summer holidays (teacher) and b) in a relatively easy country to travel to.

I have booked a cruise and will be watching it at sea near Morocco.

Yes, a group of us, family and friends, are taking a villa in southern Spain.

We were in Nebraska for it as part of a massive US road trip. Definitely plan to travel for future eclipses

We came to Majorca for this one and will be arranging a trip for next year definitely. It has been truly magical.

I stayed with my youngest daughter on the beach and we looked through the special glasses to see the beginning progress but were too low down to see total eclipse itself. The feeling of it going dark and light again was amazing. My partner and eldest daughter had a mini hike up a hilly area and got to see much more and got some fab pics.

I've got a MNetter to thank for mentioning this eclipse on a retirement thread last year. I'm not retired but happened to see it and booked a trip to Majorca. Saw the eclipse - it was wonderful - but won't be going next year. It's unbearably hot here and will be just as bad next year. And you run the risk of missing it if a bastard cloud gets in the way e.g. France 1999.

If you do go, don't rely on the glasses. Get filters for binoculars they give a fantastic view.

Um, no. It was fun watching it yesterday but that’ll do me for another several decades.

I went to Mallorca just to see the eclipse and I'm glad I did, it was a great experience and I got some good pictures. I'm not sure you'd need to go to Egypt as even in Spain, it's going to be much longer than this years. Also, it's still likely to be bloody hot and unlikely to be cloudy in the Malaga area in August.

Was very well organised too, with special buses and road closures to prevent people parking badly. Hopefully you won't be affected by surge pricing taking advantage by cancelling early bookings and then ramping up prices. I think there was some of this in Spain this year, which is one of the reasons why I only went for the day.

Considered it but everywhere it's visible is too hot for me that time of year.

We have a villa booked outside Malaga with two other families. They’re all astronomers (I’m not!) so lots of excitement. Should be fun though slightly concerned about the weather! Villa is in the totality zone so won’t need to travel thankfully - my friends were in Portugal this year and it took hours and hours for them to get back home after.

My son has been inspired by the latest eclipse and is desperate to see a total one. Just wondering where we could go to combine with a family holiday…thinking somewhere near Malaga perhaps

That was my thinking. Ive booked a place that ticks all the usual requirements for a holiday stay that just also happens to be in the path of totality. If we get freak cloudy weather we will still experience it being suddenly like night for over 3 mins.

We are arriving the week before so have plenty of time to plan for a good place to view it. Either on the beach or maybe even just from our own poolside or balcony.

We've booked 2 nights to see it but it's too hot to base a holiday around for us! If you haven't booked anywhere yet, you need to get going VERY quickly as accommodation is already scare...

where have you booked, and have you any good leads on fairly cheap but reasonable accommodation anywhere? I was thinking somewhere like Malaga might be fairly reasonable for both flights and accommodation but haven't done anything about it yet (not working/earning for a couple of months so was waiting). It's too hot for me too, so wanted a fairly quick fly in/out trip, and I think Gibraltar is too crowded/expensive. I'd love a cruise but not enough money really. Just travelling by myself, so any good tips/suggestions are welcome.

I found ChatGPT really helpful with where you view it. This year I used it to watch the shooting stars that happened a few hours after the eclipse. I explained what way my hotel room was facing etc and I got a load of useful information of where to look.

We organised our holiday this year around the eclipse- it was hot! But it was a great experience too and if you can organise your holiday around it then go for it. Not sure I could go further south though and it be even hotter. Don't forget the glasses!
