Ideas for a long weekend away with ds, 2

We are thinking of going for a long weekend/short break (4 or 5 days) in September and wanted are a bit stuck as to where to go. We have been thinking about France but really open to suggestions at the moment. I tend to always veer towards Istanbul, but that is because I worked there for two years and love it! Not sure if it would be that suitable for a toddler though and if it is a bit far to travel for just a short break!

All ideas would be gratefully accepted

Me too! Got almost a week off in early sept, just me and dd, aged then 21 months. Ideas gratefully received!

What's your budget and what's your criteria? City break? Beach? Luxury hotels? rented villa? Will you be hiring a car or do you need to fly to your destination? Do you want lots of 'entertainment'? A package deal? Cultural places to visit? Shopping? Museums? Good food?

It might be easier to give useful suggestions if you let us know a bit more about what you'd ideally like.

Istanbul is definately suitable for a toddler. Pretty much anywhere is really, but what are you looking for for your toddler?

Sardinia if you fancy a beach holiday or you like travelling round countryside and mountains. DS loves it there.

Poland. Went with DS was 3 and hiked through the Carpacian mountains with him in the south. Krakow is a great city if you want a city break too.

mylittlepudding what are your criteria and budget? Or are we starting with a blank canvas?

Flying is fine and budget is fairly flexible, obviously not wildly expensive but not looking at doing it on a shoestring iyswim!

As for likes, etc... well I'm an art historian and specialise in medieval art, hence reason for so much time in istanbul. Dh is a mad history nut and likes anything historical/fine art. Like good food and wine, would be nice to go somewhere where we can unwind a bit, as dh has really stressful job and wont have a break between now and when we go away, and he is also working practically every weekend too But not fans at all of beach holidays with kids clubs. Ds is pretty easy going, recently back form 8 weeks travelling in NZ with him and he was great, loved eery minute of it.

Sorry if I sound a little vague!
