Went last year on a longish trip (started at Cluj, took in Brasov, Sibiu, Sinaia, and then Bucharest). Best things in Bucharest were Palace of the Parliament (you have to book, and you need your passport - views are divided on this, but it is worth seeing) Bucharest Terme, fabulous, about 30e for the day but well worth it (near the airport), also we liked Cisimigiu park for a wander around (we stayed near it) also went to the National Bank of Romania museum, you have to book (it is free and interesting, but they only offer one tour a day, passport etc.). If you can get on the train to the Bucegi Mountain area (Sinaia etc.) there are chairlifts up the mountain and the whole area is really nice, peles castle etc. (there are bears though). We stayed in a great hotel there with spa, pretty decent for a good price. We liked Bucharest the least of all of the places we had been in Romania (it is not particularly pretty compared with every other city), the food was also "not great" - in other cities you had your choice of places, no pressure, food good and also cheap, Bucharest has a lively strip of restaurants / bars with bored under-dressed girls trying to get you in their establishment. Probably the wrong choice for us, and I am sure there are good places elsewhere, but yeah, a bit seedy and the food was bloody awful. The Romanian people are really nice,. It is a massively underrated country to visit in my view. Have a good time x Top tips: you can pay by card most places, get uber / bolt - it is cheap enough, and saves you a lot of hassle and rip offs, we did get the bus in a few places, dead cheap but you need time, also we were amazed at the Airbnbs that we stayed in, worth a look. All beds are quite hard wherever you go. You can get an e-sim for about £3 for a couple of weeks.
