I'd love to go to Australia (always planned to but never got the chance), and would like to return to spend more time in Northern Europe, i.e. Norway, Sweden, Finland, Baltic, etc. Also happy to keep going back to Cyprus and can't wait to return to Israel and Jordan once the current problems settle down again.

I'd never go back to Kenya (Mombassa was a horrible crime ridden hell hole with unfriendly locals looking to rob you at every opportunity!) but at least it was excellent away from Mombassa on safari! Wouldn't go back to The Gambia - nice/friendly locals but the poverty and deprivation ruins the experience.

Offahloofah · 05/08/2026 10:00

Amazing to visit-

Peru - outstanding scenery, so diverse and under-rated - mountains, volcanoes, canyons, desert, historical and cultural sites.

Iceland - ring road and interior travel- other worldy scenery but expensive.

Brazil - diverse, wildlife.

China - again, really under-rated destination- outstanding scenery and thousands of years of history.

Wouldn’t return to Morocco or Turkey.

Will never go to India.

Bucket list is orangutans in Borneo and lemurs/whale watching in Madagascar.

Been to a lot of Countries my absolute favourite is USA just so much to see and do and not enough time.

Worst places were France and Poland and Amsterdam

I'd really like to go to Tenerife but I hear it's extremely hilly

Tenerife is magical

Masca blew me away and La Oratava and Puerto de la Cruz are special places x

I like history and natural beauty, want to feel safe, and need to be able to get around by public transport as don't drive. (Sicily I did by guided tour and Norway on a cruise but am not really a cruise person, but Norway itslef was fab.)

Would not do again:

I have been lucky enough to go to many amazing places.

Where I still want to go:

Antarctic (been to the Svalbard)
Greenland
Moscow - impossible
Nepal
Taiwan
Cook Islands
Madagascar
Rwanda

Why is Moscow impossible? Np direct flights but you could go through Kazakhstan/Georgia etc, although I would highly recommend St Petersburg over Moscow. Visit the Red Square in Moscow (only thing worth visiting) and then take the sleeper train to St Petersburg which is incredible

Avoid France?! That is absolutely mental advice.

I think I’m over long haul. Both times I’ve been to the continent of Africa I’ve been frightened so not doing that again. Cairo is a shithole.

There are less visited areas of Spain that are beautiful. If I could only visit France Italy and Spain for rest of my life I’d be fine with that.

JuliettaCaeser · Today 07:44

Japan is the fashionable place to go this year for some reason. I’ll stick to Italy.

Simonjt · Today 07:54

I loved Japan, but I was single when I went so I wouldn’t be able to go back unless laws changed.

We both love Canada, we went this summer and almost moved to Canada a few years ago. We’ve already started planning next summers holiday to canada.

We really like Norway, so we might do a few long weekend trips this year on the train.

I would never do a cruise again, I did one and I left early it was so awful, it was like being on an all inclusive but you had to go on day trips with everyone, so Butlins with day release really.

Favourites

Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, especially Borneo, Sri Lanka, Iceland, Albania, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary and Slovenia

least favourites Bulgaria

Want to visit Jordan, Galapagos, Antarctica, Uzbekistan. Travel is our passion.

SlightlyTerrifiedButPolite · Today 07:58

Was also going straight in with Vietnam! 3 weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia, just a magical trip

Closer to home but we loved staying in Berchtesgaden in Bavaria and driving around, seeing the alps and lakes and amazing castles

We also loved a visit to the Champagne region (one week) followed by a week in the Loire valley

Budapest is my all time favourite city break. Beautiful place

DemonsandMosquitoes · Today 08:01

Loved The Maldives, Mauritius, Iceland, Tromso, Seville, Croatia, Slovenia.
Not so much Tunisia, Dublin, Lisbon.

Lentilcakes · Today 08:24

Loved:
Australia - 26 years ago!
US - been to east coast (road trip)!most recently although as a young person travelled across it). So much to see and so varied. NYC a bit crazy but still.
Mexico - went in the 90s so has prob changed but loved Oaxaca and Mexico City .
Stockholm - wish we had longer
Norwegian fjords
Malta. Parts are very built up but there’s a lot of history there. Loved Valletta. Was a good mix of fly and flop and history. Go a bit off season so it’s not too hot to do all the historical stuff.
Venice (love Italy)
Croatia (Dubrovnik is where we went)
Berlin (but we had awful weather)

would like to go:
Japan
Cambodia/Vietnam
Canada
Safari

Alaska

Not fussed on India - some places I’d like to see like kerela but no to the big cities and Delhi belly. 9/10 holidays I come back w diarrhoea so no way!

No desire for Dubai, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey or a cruise (think I’d go mental and I hate seeing massive cruise ships in small harbours when I go away).

Wouldn’t go back to:
Paphos (Cyprus)
Lanzarote (been too many times now for various winter sun holidays)
Paris (seen it all multiple times and wasn’t keen on the last time)

DisplayPurposesOnly · Today 08:47

Loved:
Amsterdam
Boston
Copenhagen
Connemara
Cornwall
Edinburgh
Galapagos Islands yacht cruise (most recent)
New Zealand road trip
Northumberland
Paris
St Petersburg (2008)
Zambia safari (twice - so good i went again)

Near future:
Norway train trip
Norwich
Prague ideally by overnight train one way

On the list:
Pompeii & Herculaneum
Nile cruise on trad small boat
Scottish islands yacht cruise
Brazil Pantanal wetlands

Seriously have to question what people are thinking when they say they don't like France?!? Like all of it?!? Whaaat???

The South of France (Cannes/Nice) is literal paradise in my view and where I want to retire.

Places to avoid: NIGERIA - an absolute hell hole

HelloPossible · Today 10:03

My favourite places to go on holiday are Italy and USA. Also want to visit much more of the UK, have never even been to Scotland or Wales. My all time favourite place I have visited so far is the Dorset coast. Places like West Bay. I love the vibe and instantly relax.

There’s currently a FCDO warning against all travel to Russia.

Maybe not physically impossible but you’d be very foolhardy to go.

Not because I couldn’t get there, but It is Level 4 do not travel advisory from the Foreign Office. Not sure any insurance company would cover you. Not sure I want my kids on Radio 4 lamenting my imprisonment!

Shout out to the person upthread who wants to do Antarctica - that’s my bucket list. (And so jealous of Svalbard! My husband needs convincing!)

Travel is our everything, the best places ever Italy always (everywhere), Singapore, Hawaii, Cuba, Japan and we do love Disney. All of them but they need some diluting with other things while you’re there.

Someone upthread said Amsterdam wasn’t good, they are wrong 😂 we’ve been many times in many guises and many generations so every time a different schedule. Always amazing. So pretty, so easy, so essential to see!

Svalbard is amazing IF you go with the right company. If you get on a big boat and you’re just looking, I imagine it’s quite different to out all day hiking and seeing. In zodiacs and getting amongst the scenery and wildlife, it is incredible. Even our kids rate it as one of their best ever holidays.

Their guides were amazing, all hugely qualified in their fields and so engaging. The boat being small meant we never felt in a huge crowd, and no big wait times.

I’d def go with them again.

Around Spitsbergen incl. Nordaustlandet | OTL13-26 | Oceanwide Expeditions

This cruise around Spitsbergen gives you a great chance to see whales, foxes, reindeer, seals, and polar bears.
