Tiverton trip with children

Hi all, we're a family of 6 with 4 children ranging from 3yrs to 9yrs. We've got a camping trip booked shortly to Tiverton for a week - we've done North Devon a number of times but always near the coast rather than inland. This was quite a rushed spur of the moment booking so didn't really look at the area and surroundings, but I'm now worried there isn't much around for us. Can anyone who lives or has visited the area recommended places for us to visit and things to do please? We're an easily pleased family and we quite like the outdoors. Thanks in advance.

There’s not loads to do in Tiverton, but it’s not too far from Exeter, which is a really great city with plenty to do. The countryside around Tiverton is very pretty though so I’m sure you will have a lovely time. Tiverton is actually quite a pretty little town in parts so it would definitely be worth a little wander in there particularly on market day. There is a really lovely restaurant near Tiverton called The Lost Kitchen but have a check of the menu and pricing first depending on your budget because it’s not a typical family place although I’m sure it’s very accommodating of children. The Waie Inn is a fantastic place to spend half a day. It’s a pub with kids menu, gardens, activity play areas, fishing, football, indoor play barn/soft play, toddler area, pool/darts/skittles/squash AND a bookable indoor swimming pool!
Darts Farm has a cafe, massive farm shop, decent play area and animal walk.

I’m from the area - I’ll be honest there isn’t much to do at all in Tiverton. There’s a few nice walks around Knighthayes and on the canal - the canal also has a lovely tea / room cafe to stop at :) there’s a leisure centre with a pool too for a couple of hours and a pottery painting place called Happy Glaze Pottery which is lovely for a miserable day!

For days out, Exeter / Taunton are only around 30 mins away or if you are happy for a longer trip one day you could head to the zoo in Paignton - there’s also QuayWest down there which is fun! Exmouth is quite nice in the summer too. Again if you don’t mind a longer day trip, Pennywell Farm and Woodlands are a great day or Crealey which is Exeter way :)

I'm local too, would agree with all of these. Crealy is always a good day out. Exmoor isn't too far, and Tarr Steps is lovely for a walk and a paddle in the river if it's warm. Knightshayes and Killerton are both NT properties and they always have games and activities for children im the summer hols. Hope you have a lovely holiday.

Diggerland Devon! Depending a bit on the kids, and what they like. The littler ones won't be able to drive much (except on a lap) but the playgrounds are good and if they are less than 1 metre tall they get in for free. For one of mine it was a life changing experience, he loved it so much.
