Positive experiences of visiting Disney World Orlando in August heat

Hello. We’re going to Disney world Orlando in a couple of weeks. Has anyone got any positive stories about going in August. I’m feeling anxious as I know it’s going hot and humid. Wasn’t my first choice to go in August but circumstances meant we were limited on when to go. Thank you x

Yes! It was fine - there are often heavy downpours which freshens things up, and also everywhere has super powerful air con so it's easy to get respite. Yes, it is super hot and humid but as you can also escape from it very easily, you'll be fine! For perspective, I took a shirt to wear when I was indoors as otherwise I got too cold!

It's been a few years but I remember lots of the queues being under cover with canopies to protect you from the heat. I was worried about having to stand in the sun for ages but it wasn't a problem.

I’ve been in September a few times and to be honest I find it much more bearable than Spain, Greece etc.

Not quite sure why - maybe it’s because there are lots of opportunities to cool down in the parks. Queuing tends to be undercover or indoors, so you frequently get the chance to cool off.

Aircon & misters are everywhere too.

Take cool towels and rechargeable fans. Seek shade and stay hydrated. We have been in August plenty. Plan sit down lunches in the air con.

We’ve been twice in August. It was completely fine. The apartment had air con, shops, bars and restaurants all have air con. The queues for the rides have massive fans going. We visited the water parks in the evening when it was a bit cooler.

We had two weeks and had days off from the theme parks. We just relaxed, went for breakfast and chilled in the pool. Have an amazing time, we did.

We all found the heat very hard but had some of the neck scarves which you wet that made it more bearable. There are water fountains all over so take some refillable bottles with you.

Last time we went in August two years ago it was hard work, not going to sugar coat it. Are you staying on site?
We’d go out very early for extra hours/rope drop and be ready to head back to our hotel by 11am.
Have pool time or do a water park. Then head back to the parks early evening. The parks are pretty after dark and queues are smaller while the shows are on or everyone is having dinner.
Pace yourselves, you won’t see everything no matter how well you plan, so go with the flow. It’s a holiday.

And regarding drinking water. Most quick service restaurants have chilled water freely available, no need to use the fountains. Go in, avail yourselves of the water and aircon.

We went in August. Downpours were fine. Had a Disney dining plan that meant i could have lots of drinks to keep hydrated.

You will be fine!

There are lots of covered areas and the queue areas generally have canopies/umbrellas too.

Lots of things to do/see inside - and the air-conditioning in the States is amazing!

I would advise any rides/water parks you want to go on do this early on in the day. They will close them once the storms/rain arrives … when we went in the summer months all the storms were mid afternoon and often had to leave mid queue!

Following with interest OP as we’re doing the same next year. It was August or Easter and I figured I’d prefer the heat to the crowds plus we can spend longer there in Aug.
I have several sets of friends who’ve been and they’ve said it’s fine as long as you pace yourself etc. It’s been 30 odd degrees on and off where I live for the past few weeks so we might be acclimatised by then! 😂

We've done it twice, you just need a bit of prep. It's hot and humid but you're never far from air con. I cope better in Florida in August than in the med! Carry a good insulated water bottle, Disney quick services will give you free cups of ice water, Universal have water machines with ice. And take cooling towels. Have the best time!

It is hot and humid as everyone says but there are water fountains and loads of places to get drinks.
We are just back and it was hot as hell, without the afternoon downpour, we normally go in August and find that better.
It was fine.
Make sure you do fill up drinks bottles etc for if you need to queue for the rides as some are out door.

We did it last year. I was really worried and anxious about it too, but it was bearable by just slowing down, lots of fluids, and ensuring plenty of breaks. As PP suggested, plan seated indoor lunches when in the parks as it really helps everyone to reset and recharge. We were like different people 10 minutes after being seated for lunch!

I’ve only ever been in August because we are limited to school holidays. Honestly, it will be fine – the humidity is hard but there is Aircon everywhere so you will be able to go and have a wander in a shop for a bit of a cool down. Make sure you keep hydrated. There are water fountains all over the park perhaps take one of those small squeezy squash bottles because the Florida water doesn’t taste the best! Or you can ask for a cup of iced water from any of the quick service places. We often tried to get to the park quite early, maybe leave mid afternoon for a shower and a proper meal somewhere before heading back to a park for the fireworks, and to enjoy shorter ride cues when the weather wasn’t great. Very envious of you, hope you have a great time!!

Be prepared for water parks / pools that evacuate guests from the swimming pools in the case of heavy thunderstorms with the risk of lightening. You don't want to prebook Discovery cove and find that you spend most of the day sat on the beach.
