Is £2.2k reasonable for a dog-friendly north Cornwall cottage?

Looking at north Cornwall for a week next school summer holidays - 3 bed cottages that are dog friendly with a beach in walking distance. Found a lovely one thats £2.2k with the earlybird booking discount, but not sure what the ballpark is these days? Does this sound reasonable?

(Yes i know its early but we left it too late this year and missed out)

Probably about right. You might find cheaper if you look somewhere further from the beach / in a less touristy area?
The standard of cottages is generally quite high in north Cornwall - but is a lot of money to spend if the weather is shit all week!

Try Devon it will be cheaper or go inland.

Thing is I love the idea of a beach within walking distance, especially one thats dog friendly year round as my spaniels love the sea! That seems quite hard to find based on my searches so far, lots seem to have seasonal restrictions. And other small things like enclosed garden, off road parking, walking distance to a pub. Sooo I'm thinking as it matches my very specific requirements, is there going to be better out there for less..

But @Dogwendot i agree on the weather concern!! July has been a scorcher the last few years but we tend to summon bad weather when we go away, even managed to catch storms and floods in Spain in high summer...

Sounds about right. We paid £2,700 for a 4 bed place with sea views just before the school summer holidays last year. Cornwall is definitely more expensive than anywhere else in the SW.

To give you an idea of the differential, we're paying £1,700 for a 4 bed with sea views in Northumberland just after the start of term this September.

This is a company I’ve used before and were very good. Gives a good indication of max price which will be the august dates.

Had a really bad experience with them.

We have a property in Cornwall that we rent out, 3 bed, very near the beach, dogs welcome so similar to what you’re describing. We charge a bit more than that for the summer holidays so it sounds good to me.

Have a look at Pack Holidays, very dog friendly and has some cottages right near beaches- not sure if they have any in Cornwall.

My 3 bed in North Cornwall is £1800. Beach not the best but area full of character. Your price seems high.

we’ve paid £3500 before in May but it was beach front.
next year paid £1500 at Easter with sea view and 2 mins walk to Beach

Oh no that’s not good, I won’t use them again in that case. They used to be excellent .my worst experience has been with Sykes a few years back, just terrible, after two great holidays with them. You can never tell.

Agreed ... I live here and love it but cannot fathom paying these sums to visit

That price is insane but unfortunately probably accurate. I use to love my hols in the UK but now we go to France and I pay that for 2 weeks with a lot more included. Sad as love the West Country but will not pay those prices!

We’re paying similar for a sea view apartment in Cornwall this summer.
I think prices shot up during Covid and didn’t come back down. I was reluctant to book as we could get an apartment abroad plus flights for a similar price - guaranteed decent weather!
Was over ruled by DH and the kids who wanted a bucket & spade hol but won’t be making a habit of it!

I think this year everything was booked out as people avoided booking long hall or even local euro flights due to uncertainty re Iran war and fuel surcharges. If that doesn’t resolve and forest fires continue next year will be even more expensive and packed. So you’ve done well. Also cost of Animal Health Certification about £400 and 3 weeks appointments and form filling per pet means you are quids in.

Blimey prices have shot up. I remember paying £700 🤦‍♀️ yes it was a few years ago but didn’t think it had gone up that much. I’ve just looked on Sykes for a week in august and there are lots of cottages in Cornwall with three bedrooms between £800-1500. That’s this year though. Obviously they might not suit but have you shopped around?

Interestingly, they’re much cheaper for this year (the same cottage) so would it be worth just waiting til next year and doing a last minute holiday? Especially if you could be flexible and look at Devon/Dorset as well.

I used to love Cornwall, especially in the sixties. But much of it has just been ruined by over tourism. And it is so expensive, not just for accommodation but also eating out, ice creams etc.

I think that's very expensive. We paid £900 for a week in Cornwall in June. It was more expensive in the summer holidays but I don't think more than £1500. It was 3 bed, dog friendly, 1 mile walk on a footpath to very quiet tidal creek. Maybe you want to be closer to the sea but that price seems insane.

We rent out a 3 bed dog friendly place in a popular part of the Lakes for £1500 per week in high season. Much more than that and I'd feel like I was ripping people off.
