Hoping to go to Santorini for 3 nights for my 50th. DH says it’s full of cruise ships and not what I’m hoping for. HOWEVER I think it ticks boxes for what I what. Has anyone been and can recommend a part of the island to stay that isn’t cruise ships but where you can walk to restaurants and see lots of white and blue buildings! Or am I not going to find this?!

It is busy, but it is beautiful and IMHO well worth a visit.

We stayed in Imerovigli, not as busy as Oia but you still get the caldera sunsets. Lots of restaurants and lots of blue and white buildings.

We stayed just outside Fira (a 10 min walk) last October and really enjoyed it but visited Oia one day and felt it was way too crowded, even at that time of year. I would go again to the same place because it was a well priced hotel and a relaxing holiday but not specifically because it was Santorini.

We stay regularly en route to another island. We stay in Akrotiri and have enjoyed many a sunset there. If you can't face Oia, the capital Fira is actually very similar.

Bus service is great.
