Mum and daughter holiday recommendations wanted!

I want to take my 8yo daughter away for a week in early June next year. We’ve had a very tough five years, illness, stress, financial issues…

DH doesn’t like holidays and DS is profoundly disabled and HATES them, so DD and I have decided that we are going to have a little adventure by ourselves!

She has never been abroad before, I would love to take her somewhere by the sea, with a nice pool and some walking distance amenities. We don’t want to be in a really, really busy place with loud nightlife but a bit of bustle is ok. Mostly we want to chill out, swim, read, eat, and SLEEP! Budget around £2000 total. I’m thinking Corfu possibly, or Kefalonia?

I have dreamed of going back to Greece since I last went 20 years ago, and I think DD would love it too (she loves history and mythology). I am slightly limited by lupus and rheumatoid arthritis but some walking is ok.

Obviously I’ve looked on google, Tui etc but just wondered if anyone here had any little gems that they know of, it’s been so long since I planned a break of any kind!

Crete? You could maybe visit Knossos?

I reckon Greece is spot-on, honestly. Places like Kefalonia or Paros would tick all the boxes beautiful beaches, proper history and mythology for your daughter (loads of ancient ruins to wander), walkable little towns where you can grab good food without going far, and genuinely doable on a £2k budget. If you fancies a change from Greece, Croatia's coast has the same vibe but fewer crowds, or Portugal's Algarve is quietly brilliant for that "swim, read, eat, sleep" holiday.
(Full disclosure: I plan travel for neurodivergent families for a living, and I'm neurodivergent myself.)

look at sunny suites, maleme. Quiet but felt safe and you can hop on and off buses to explore other places easily.

Oooh yes she would love Knossos! I’ll include it in my little mental folder entitled ‘Dream Getaway’

Oh wow, then I’m in good hands! I’m AuDHD myself. The two male neurodivergents in our house just can’t cope with the transitions and change but I just about can - and my daughter THRIVES on the stuff. I can imagine DD in Greece admiring the local cats and charming local taverna owners!
