3-4 night European trip early October, not a city break - Cinque Terre? Any other suggestions?

DH doesn't want to do a city break, I don't want to sit on a beach all day as like to sightsee. Thought Cinque Terre could fit the bill. Any advice or other suggestions greatly appreciated . Thank you!

October is a good month for the Black Forest in Germany - the autumn foliage is spectacular and there will probably be some wine harvest festivals.

German wine regions - Palatinate, Rhine, Franconia.

Walking in Bavaria

Came here to say Bavaria. One of the lakes just south of Munich that you can access via train in less than an hour from the main station. Lots of lovely lake shore small towns, castles, walking , good food, Munich accessible for an easy day trip.

Cinque Terre is completely overrun these days. Further up the coast, Sestri Levante is a nice place to stay on the trainline - boats might still be running too. You can do a day trip to a couple of the C5 villages and also do Portofino, Camogli and Ste Margherita Ligure in the other. Taormina in Sicily is also nice for a short break - bus from Catania airport and lots of trip options.

Antibes? You can get the train to Nice or any of the other cities and towns along the coast
