Looking for a winter break. Where will people recommend we go? I don’t think anywhere in Europe will be warm enough for a beach holiday

We’re going to Antigua

We’ve been to Barbados four times at Christmas - it’s amazing, but expensive. Now we’re retired we go in November or March which is also fab. Our first visit to the Caribbean we went on a cruise over Christmas to see which island we liked the best. We loved the cruise, but our favourite island is Barbados. Enjoy.

@letshavetea can I ask please if you stay in a hotel when you’re in Barbados and which one? I am looking to book Barbados but don’t have a clue which hotel to go for. Initially I looked at the Fairmont as have stayed in their hotels before but the reviews are not exactly fantastic. Do you have any recommendations please?

@Ladyymuck yes, I have two. Both come from many years of trying out different places. We now stay at Beach View Hotel in St James or Port St Charles in Speightstown. Both are lovely and on the west coast. I would also happily stay at Sandpiper or Coral Reef Club. We hire a car. We were last there in March for 16 nights and stayed at Beach View . I don’t hear great things about Fairmont and would give it a miss. I’ll be interested to hear what you decide.

We went to Negril in Jamaica this year and really enjoyed it. Stayed on a B&B basis in a small hotel (30 rooms) called Footeprints in the Sand, pottered down the beach to find somewhere to eat whenever we were hungry. You do get people offering boat trips or wanting to braid hair, walking up and down the beach multiple times a day, but they are not intrusive. Barbados is on my list, was my initial choice, but we live in Northern England and the direct flights are limited to peak season.

@Ladyymuck you’re welcome. I’d be interested to hear what you end up booking.
