Croatia help - villa holiday

We are looking at villas for August 2027 . Villas on VRBO look substantially cheaper and some are absolutely stunning. There’s 7 adults and one 6 year old going.
Has anyone experience of Croatia and/or villa holidays there?
The country looks stunning but I don’t know where to start other than we would like a beach fairly close, and somewhere to do a supermarket shop. We will be hiring a car.

I’d look at Makarska area down the coast from Split. Or Istria, near Pula or Rovinj.

The islands are lovely but car hire can be tricky- we hired a car on the mainland and took a ferry to the island but then found the car ferries were chockablock on the way back and nearly missed our flight. Mainland will be easier if you want a car.
