European October half-term ideas with children beyond the usual city break

Looking for somewhere to go in Europe October half term which is the last week of October. Ideally 26th to 30th (Monday to Friday) but not paris as have been recently. 2 adults and 2 kids aged 12&10.
We are looking for somewhere which has something specific to do (even like a theme park, historical point like the Eiffel tower then Disneyland which is what we did in Paris). Struggling to find things which isn't just standard city stuff for a decent flight cost at that time although appreciate it might not be cheap as half term but also don't want to spend thousands for a short break. Thanks.

Rome? Loads to see and experiences that the kids would enjoy.

Syracuse on Sicily

The weather will still be decent
Greek stuff
Roman stuff
Etna
and a FULL day trip to this place will blow your minds

Also the food is wonderful, the people are lovely and the driving is chill for Italy

Thanks both would be lovely and Italy is definitely on the list but it's well over £1000 for flights for the 4 nights and I was hoping for something a bit cheaper if I'm honest! A hidden gem type thing perhaps although Google isn't helping too much so was hoping people might have suggestions on here

Europapark in Rust/Germany? You could add Colmar/Strasbourg for some sight seeing or Freiburg or Stuttgart.

Long weekend at Centre Parcs in either NL or Belgium and then a few days at Efteling. The tunnel and driving from Calais does not take too long, depending on how far you are from Folkestone.

check the prices for Catania
we did it for an Easter and were stunned by how cheap it was
especially as food and stay are cheaper when you get there
