£2113 for four nights B&B at the InterContinental, is that reasonable?

Just paid £2113 for 4 nights b&b in the Intercontinental Hotel - am I nuts?

Where? What does it include?

Pippin2017 · 11/07/2026 23:08

Well, it's over £500 per night so if it's just you it's stupidly expensive. If it's for a party of 10, not so much

Intercons tend to be pretty luxurious though, I've stayed in a few (thanks to dh's points accumulated through work) and they are worth it imo.

OneLimePombear · 11/07/2026 23:17

No, it will be lovely.

Bjorkdidit · 12/07/2026 09:47

Surely it depends?

The most basic room out of season, sounds a lot. Especially if you're on a budget and there's loads of other perfectly nice places for less.

A suite when there's an event on or possibly just high season and you can afford it, no problem.

Looking at your other posts, you’ve been through tough time recently with health but you have a very healthy pension pot ( and I’m assuming savings ) , so , no, go for it, enjoy it.

Thank you yes I do. However being frivolous is not normal so it takes some adjusting to.

Things are worth whatever people will pay for them. Did you enjoy it? Did you feel it was good value for money?

I’ve stayed at very expensive hotels I didn’t like, and very expensive hotels I absolutely loved. I don’t look anymore at the name of the brand - it doesn’t guarantee anything.

Did you think it was a good intercontinental?

Have you been to Cape Town before?

Overtheatlantic · 12/07/2026 19:09

Do you have a fabulous view? I think it could be a great experience.

So you know what you are getting for your money.

Cockerpoomom · 12/07/2026 20:21

I guess you've paid it now, not much you can do about it regardless so don't worry about the money, just go and enjoy yourselves!
You can get money back but not the memories you make with it :)

tillyandmilly · 12/07/2026 20:23

Enjoy! If you can afford it why the guilt?

Junaluma · 12/07/2026 23:32

No, I love a good hotel! We booked Cape Town recently and staying at Morea House and got breakfast included for nearly £700. It’s a lot yes but it’s a special occasion and we can afford it so why not? Life is too short.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/07/2026 06:00

If it makes you feel better, I stayed at an Intercontinental (not Cape Town) with my parents & sister more than 40 years ago. It was amazing. I was 10, DSis was 7 and we still remember it.

Dilemma999 · 13/07/2026 06:40

There are so many lovely and characterful properties in Capetown that would be cheaper than that. An Intercontinental is just another bland luxury hotel chain you can find all over the world. Overpriced in my opinion but it’s your money.
