Best base around Worthersee or Ossiacher See without a car

Hello. I am after some advice/experiences from anyone who has been to this area. I am thinking to go next summer and trying to get ahead with research!
It will be me and two children 9&12. The vague idea is to fly to Klagenfurt and then possibly air b&b for the week.
Idea is walking distance to a nice lake swimming area that is free and easy access to one of the paid ones where there is a slide/diving platform, as the kids are happy just jumping in off things most of the day!
Ideally want to do it on public transport, so looking at northern shores of either Worthersee or Osiachersee I think where the train runs.

So my questions...
Where is best to base ourselves? Are there any nice towns visit, places to avoid? And which area of each lake would be best to base ourselves?
Any top tips for swimming areas or accomodation?
Is it doable by public transport?!
I would quite like to be able to do a few walks, or hire bikes one day, but we are not massive hikers.
I am on a bit of a budget, but the campsites seem less well-linked to trains, but would consider (needs to be a unit, rather than a pitch) if they are more well linked than they look?

Thanks in advance!

We stayed in Villach and did the following by public transport:
Kartentherme pool (which has waterslides)
Familywald Ossiacher See
Affenberg Landskron animal park
Bike hire
And this beach which we went to almost every day as it has so much going on https://www.visitvillach.at/en/annenheim/info/campingbeach.html

campingbeach in Annenheim

The lido in the western bay of Lake Ossiach offers bathing fun for the whole family - with a jetty and sunbathing area with trees. day ticket per adult € 5,50 day ticket per child (age from 6 until 14) € 4,00

Amazing, thanks. I will look into all those places. Did you have to get public transport to annenheim camping beach. Is it doable, or would you have chosen to stay nearer to a beach?

It depends where in Villach you stay. We stayed quite central, so it would have been too far to walk for my youngest dc, but we biked it a few times.
