Three nights in Corfu before Paxos, stay in Corfu Town?

Because of the configuration of flights from our regional airport we will have 3 mights in Corfu before heading to Paxos in September. Should we stick to staying in Corfu Town or venture further afield?
Can hire a car if necessary and not too fussed about this budget, though would prefer somewhere with character rather than a resort. It's just me and DH

Corfu town is nice but you might want to go further afield if you're there that long. We went to Kassiopi which was lovely or Sidari is nice.
Also the Achilleion palace has reopened now I think but you can get the bus there. No need for a car.

Corfu Town has a fair bit to do, character etc - old town, fortress, port, shops, many bars and restaurants, a cricket pitch! You could do day trips from there. Is it worth moving around much for a 3 night stay? Maybe hire a car one day and buzz around the north coast.

I would stay in corfu town, but then hire a car for a day or take a bus (there are loads) to a beachy resort that you fancy. I love Corfu town

Thanks all. Where have you all stayed in Corfu Town? The places I'd earmarked are booked - the historic type hotels. Maybe I'm missing a gem though?
