Hi all
looking for recommendations for a week in Europe sonewhere from 10th august. We were goi g to do Paris because my son wants to see the Eiffel Tower. But with the temperatures at the moment plus it being very city based I want something a bit more relaxing. Plus my DH said there is a lot of pick pocketing.
short haul Europe Please.
I been to quite a few places in France and Spain. Ideally would
like to have a pool and be close to a beach.
Thanks

You might want to look at the Algarve in Portugal as it is slightly cooler than Spain in August and has beautiful sandy beaches. Resorts like Albufeira or Praia da Rocha have lovely family hotels with pools right by the sea. It is a very relaxed short haul option that your son will still find really fun...

Alghero. Find a hotel overlooking the lido.

Somewhere on the silver Coast of Portugal like nazarre, anywhere on the coast near Lisbon is great.. i think we stayed at Foz d'Arelo or somewhere like thst. Or sagres or Lagos or prahia de luz on the Algarve (I prefer further west but also east of Faro is tavira on a sand bar beach). Then Norte regions fly to Porto and beaches up there are great. Not that sandy where I was though.

Begur Costa Brava is lovely. Several different sandy coves. Nice day trips if you want that. Fly into Girona.

At this stage it may be more a case of what’s available. Paris is ridiculously hot right now but will probably be back to normal be the time you go. I was there a week ago and it was absolutely fine … it varies and it varies across europe. A couple of years ago SIL refused to go to Greece in the summer because of the temperature…. And went to Portugal where it was mid 40s some days.

Can you get the train from Paris? If so think Brittany or the West Coast. By the way I don’t think Paris is that bad for pickpocketing…. But there’s definitely a lot of panic talk about how bad it is and London too.

Calpe. Fly into Alicante. Suitopia Hotel is lovely but lots of other options. Can get tram to Denia or Benidorm for a day out of resort. Lovely beach and restaurants.
