New York for 4-5 nights

I would like to go to New York with DH. Looking at 4 to 5 nights probably looking at August, September or October. Budget not too expensive probably about up to £2000. Any suggestions including any accommodation taxes. Thank you so much

You might just get 4 nights for £2000 flying from London. That’s a really low budget for New York though unless it’s £2000 each.

BA holidays is good place to start. It will give you a variety of flight times and accommodation. Consider flying via Dublin so you clear passport control in Dublin rather than on landing. Where would you be flying from?

The Riu Plaza Times Square is a known hotel on the Facebook planning pages I am on. This hotel includes breakfast - many don’t. You can fly from Manchester via Dublin for 4 nights for just over £1000 each on 3rd October with BA. The price includes fees and taxes.

Just looked at our invoice from the last time we were in NY in May 2024. 4 nights, flying from Manchester, staying at the Hilton Times Square for 2 adults and a 12 year old and that was £2600 for us all. It was the absolute cheapest we could get by far. That was with Aer Lingus though and they’re not flying from Manchester anymore. It will be a tough gig to get 2k all in.

I think I was being optimistic ha ha. I hope you all enjoyed it, somewhere i have always wanted to visit.

I went in March and stayed riu times square with breakfast and cost 1500 for 2 of us including flights from Heathrow so can be done

Easily doable for flights and hotel for 2 people. 4 nights in september with british airways flying wednesay 2nd to Sunday 6th from £860 each if you book a package.

Of course spending money is a different question but new york can be as expensive or cheap as you want it to be once you're there. You can do it OP. You just need to plan what you want to do when you are there and see if you can make it work within your budget.

There's loads of great things to see and do for free in New York so I'd focus on maybe 1 main attraction per day and see how that fits in with your food budget. I hope you can make it work! I have travelled loads of times to new york on a budget so know it's doable.

Of your possible dates, August will be a bit cheaper because the heat and humidity make New York less attractive for a lot of travelers.

September will be higher because of the US Open, Fashion Week and the UN General Assembly. October is cooler, so many people prefer that weather for sightseeing.

I like staying in Chelsea at the Hilton Moto. Funky place, nice bar.

I think the weather ‘breaks’ in October?
I’ve been there up to mid October 15 years ago and it was warm the whole period we were there.
Last time it was colder and rainy end of the first week.

So lesson is take clothes suitable for rain showers if you’re going in October.

oh don't go to New York in August - the weather can be brutally hot and humid and New York is A LOT.

Try to avoid staying in Times Square.
We were in New York last summer (and, yes, it was hot!) and Times Square is a shithole now, full of dodgy characters. I wouldn't want to be there at night. In fact there was a shooting there the night we left, which didn't surprise me.

We were there a similar time! I love Times Square but I wouldn’t stay near there, it’s too chaotic. We stayed in mid town so only a short walk to Times Square. Summer weather was brutal but doable with lots of cold drinks and air con.
