Anyone else anxious about showing their feet on holiday?

Hi,

I am going on holiday to Tenerife next week with my partner. I love going on holiday (don't we all!). However, a big down side for me is the thought of exposing my feet in sandals, flip flops or just sunbathing barefoot by the pool. I think my feet are nice enough but just hate the thought of them being seen in public. It's really too hot for closed shoes. I really want to overcome this fear and would love to hear from any other women who suffer from this phobia. Has anyone any tips?

TIA

Do you have pedicures? They make all feet look beautiful IME!

I get a pedicure and gel toes - make me feel fine about showing them in public. Though to be fair I've rarely looked at a pair of clean feet with neatly clipped toes and thought yuk.

Seriously, nobody cares about your feet. Unless you have two of them on each leg, everyone is going to be much more focused on their book, cocktail, watching the kids in the pool than paying even the slightest attention to random strangers' feet.

Also to add - this is not a "get a pedicure" issue - it's a mental health issue.

I paint my toenails and moisturise my feet a lot so I’m fine with getting them out. Can you do some DIY stuff or book in for a pedicure before you go? I wouldn’t want to get my feet out if I had done nothing to them.

IDGAF what people think of my feet 🤷‍♀️

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 09/06/2026 16:30

Not at all. My feet are very inelegant, I call them toddler feet because they're small and square. But they're in good nick - soft skin, no calluses, tidy nails.

I think people only notice feet when they're dirty or neglected. Like most parts of ourselves really.

Pedicure is a must

It's not your feet people will look at, when they glance at your entire outfit, they won't pay much attention to them

Topsytails · 09/06/2026 16:37

Just look at the men in flip flops 😩 they DGAF about ugly feet.

I slap some nail varnish on and flip flops and go about my day.

Deffo have a pedicure before you go away

Bikenutz · 09/06/2026 18:15

Most people are too busy thinking about themselves to notice other people’s feet. And even if they do glance, it’s usually neutral. Remind yourself that you are paying way more attention to your feet than anyone else ever would.

So don’t get a pedicure (unless you want one) - it’s a waste of money and your valuable time. Men don’t do this and they mostly still enjoy their summer holidays.

Dontcallmescarface · 09/06/2026 18:48

My toes are deformed. I have had 4 operations on them and I haven't shown them in public for years. I wear closed toe sandals in the summer and never worn flip-flops in my entire 60 years on plant Earth. Trust me there is no pedicure in the world that'll make those bad boys look good.

TheBot · 09/06/2026 22:01

I have never in my life noticed anyone's feet.
I wear socks and trainers however hot it is for comfort unless I'm actually on a sunbed or swimming. Honestly even if you were a hobbit no-one would be interested.

All of a sudden I have started to get callouses and thick skin on my feet! They are so unsightly and I have no idea why it just happened overnight.

I am too embarassed to get a pedicure - the technician will probably think I am a hobbit.

So yes, I am panicking about summer too OP!

Go and see a chiropodist, they'll have that sorted in no time.
