Holiday to Costa Rica

Hi all,
Please share your recommendations for family tour bookings / companies for going to Costa Rica for myself and my two daughters (currently 9 and 12). Planning to go summer 2027.

We love animals / wildlife, adventure activities (though nothing too adventurous / scary!) and would like a fully escorted tour for 8 days or so + a bit of luxury at a nice resort for another 4 days at the end of the trip.

For anyone who has been - is July / August a good time of year to go?

Thank you!

We went in August. The mornings were hot and humid with the afternoons having heavy downpours/storms. To be honest, we got out early each day so the rain didn't impact us - wildlife is most active early, and then again in the evenings.
We went with an 8 year old and 11 year old. It was amazing, we saw so much wildlife. I would go again! We based ourselves just outside of Jaco in a villa. People were really friendly and helpful. I will look up who we used for tours.

It might be an indication of BA never used to fly direct during our summer. It’s the wet season. I think it’s worth looking at something like this https://www.audleytravel.com/costa-rica/best-time-to-visit?infinity=ict2~net~gaw~cmp~22823081985~ag~185804740071~ar~765830152499~kw~~mt~~acr~2868936838&audcmp=22823081985&audadg=185804740071&audkey=&auddev=m&audadid=765830152499&audpos=&audtrgt=aud-1957672104616:dsa-1719288075077&audtel=ppcnb&audnet=g&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22823081985&gbraid=0AAAAAD_LTQu69C4YtBr6r4iUeGI2Mgn9D&gclid=CjwKCAjw857RBhAgEiwAI-1yKOyXPjaUsfS7U6hMOUgZyg3e6-cAu3lg7RXlzE2ZIv80JlikEfvYzhoCKN4QAvD_BwE#may-jun

There is a joke that it’s wet season or really wet season in CR, but heavy rain tends to make animals hide. I think our school summer hols is really wet season so I’d choose another time.

Exodus are a good company.
We went towards the end of the rainy season and it was very humid, so difficult to get things dry, just a tip so you can take plenty of undies etc!

Following. I’ll be looking to go probably Easter 2028.

When we went we booked a trip with a company called Exodus. It was absolutely brilliant. The trip took us all over Costa Rica. The places you could only reach by boat were a particular highlight.

We went in August about 9 years ago now and we saw plenty of wildlife in the wild - sloths, monkeys, coati, geckos, toucan, crocodiles, so many beautiful birds. The weather was fine for us but we aren't lie on the beach type people - it was about 27C and sunny but would rain around 4pm each day so we used to go out early and come back early and also loved watching rain in the rainforest.

We went last year (April) with Scott Dunn. It was £££ but magical, our favourite place was pacuare lodge where you white water raft in on day one then back out at the end. They organised loads of great activities, and private transfers between locations with drivers who didn’t make my youngest DD feel travel sick (which is a miracle!).

They call July/August the green season.
It's a good time to visit.
We went then and it was brilliant - over 3 weeks we had 2 days of rain during the day and one of those was when white water rafting. Some fantastic overnight storms.
We did it all independently to keep costs down - was very easy to organise. A friend went with G adventures which she also recommends.
Hotels are reasonably priced as is eating out, but entrance fees are pricey and everything costs - no cost-free day just going for a walk - all land is owned so you have to pay!
