Hello
We (me, DH and DC 20 and 24) are traveling this route in the summer, flying T - QC - STJ - T and driving between. Staying in Malbaie, Tadoussac, St Johns, Bulls Bay, Twillingate and Niagra. We have some whale/puffin/iceberg watching planned and seeing the falls obviously but if anyone has been and has recommendations for things to do/places to eat etc I'd love to hear them :)
Thank you so much, I am so excited!

How long are you there for?

Quebec City… l’affaire est ketchup. Brilliant food and very idiosyncratic!

Toronto - try the Distillery Area there’s a fabulous tapas restaurant. And we ate at an amazing Portuguese fish restaurant about 3km from downtown. Will revert… Chiado’s.

Canada is fabulous. We’ve just returned and loved every moment. DS has had a year at McGill in Montréal - so lucky!!

Madrina is the tapas bar.

Toronto - you can get the ferry to the island and stroll around there, or rent bikes. It's basically just a big park, but nice to visit - nudist beach at one end and a residential area at the other.

College st around Clinton st, and south on Ossington ave, is fun for a wander and drinks/dinner

We had lunch at the revolving restaurant at the top of the CN Tower in Toronto which we thought was going to be a bit gimmicky but actually turned out to be a really lovely meal with a great view. Would recommend.

You’ll have to update after the holiday! I’d love to go back to Canada and next time Newfoundland and St John’s will be on the list!

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 03/06/2026 13:38

@Johnogroats will do!

Visit Niagara-on-the-lake, very sweet town and much nicer than the town near the falls (although that is fascinatingly tacky which I wasn’t aware expecting!).

We also really liked the Niagara Aero Whirlpool Car

As of last October's trip:

We had a good casual dinner at the Amsterdam Brewhouse right on the lakeshore - Queens Quay West, Toronto. TFI Friday sort of fare.

Copacabana Brazilian Steakhouse in Niagara Falls was fun for dinner.

Queen Victoria Place Restaurant at Niagara Falls is lovely for a fallsview lunch.

Cannot for the life of me remember where we ate in Quebec City (which is gorgeous!).

Years ago we had dinner in the Skylon Tower revolving restaurant in Niagara. I imagine the food has improved by now 😬

Bon voyage!

A bit of a quirky one, but in Toronto you can ride the 501 Queen Streetcar, one of the longest tram routes in the world which gives a great overview of the many diverse Toronto neighborhoods as it trundles along it's 15mile route. I found it fascinating and did a return journey on it too (stay on the same side/seat to see the other side of the road).

Lots of and route information online. I'd only caution if the weather is hot as no aircon and avoid peak commuter times but gives a very interesting overview on a normal or drizzly day.

We did Niagara Falls/Toronto 10 years ago now, but while we were in Toronto we went to this amazing cafe for breakfast called Eggspectation. It was, without doubt, the best breakfast I have ever had! We went to watch the Toronto Blue Jays play baseball, which was fun. We did want to do an Ice Hockey match, but it wasn't the season.
I also second the Niagara Whirlpool Aero Car. And, if it's your thing, the zip line at Niagara falls is great too.
One of the things we should've done, but didn't, was to go round the vineyards around Niagara.
