Recommend me a suitcase please!

I’ve quite a few holidays booked this year & could do with a new suitcase that goes in the hold. I haven’t bought one in years so a bit overwhelmed with choice, so recommendations gratefully received.

Lightweight (to make max use of the 20kg luggage allowance), 4 wheels & so easy to manoeuvre, not bothered about hard or soft shell & easily identifiable on the belt. Not looking to spend a fortune but happy to spend a decent amount for quality that lasts (as likely won’t be buying another one for years again!). Thanks!

What size are you looking for? Carry-on? Check-in?
What would you consider a decent amount?

FrankieMcGrath · 31/05/2026 17:32

Check in - that can take up to 20/22kg

American Tourister bought from Wardow.com was the cheapest when we bought.
We have gradually replaced all our suitcases of varying sizes and our carry on backpacks for Easyjet with American Tourister. After a nightmare with a Trip case I wanted good quality.

I bought a mid-sized Rock case a few years back that’s done well over a few trips. Apart from a small amount of scuffing, it’s held up well to luggage handling and it rolls well and takes a decent amount of stuff. It’s never 20kg on the way out, but gets pretty close to 20kg when properly full on the way home. DP’s case from a different brand cracked on our last trip and so he’s going to have mine for our next trip and I’ve bought myself a slightly smaller aerolite case. Time will tell if this one holds up well, but there weren’t many companies that sold the size that I wanted.

I’m a fan of Antler soft sided cases, medium size.

We use the IT branded worlds lightest soft cases. Have medium and large ones

Samsonite hard-sided spinner. Can’t beat the brand and the customer service.

Away bags. Not cheap but have mine in every size and they do a LOT of robust travel and still perfect.

I've got one from M&S, that particular model has been superseded, but they are excellent value & very sturdy. Hard case, would never have a soft-shell.

I've had it about 8 years, probably nearly 100 flights in that time, still good but a little scuffed.

I have a distinctive strap that fastens around it, & I've a painted a design on it to make it distinctive.

Samsonite with compartments inside. 4 wheel spinner. I also have a small holdall bag that sits on top of the case via a flap over the bag handle. That’s then my carry on bag. Perfect combo. Look out for sales but my bags are excellent.

Primark hard shell, yes really. Five years and multiple baggage throwers handlers later, still perfect. Cost 45quid. Great value and I won't mind replacing it if needed. I have better brands, but they are heavy when empty so not used much apart from transatlantic where there's a bigger kg allowance. I do use luggage straps length and breadth, but I do that no matter what class of a suitcase I use. I'd hate to think of my smalls cascading out of a burst zip and the case landing on the luggage belt like that. 😊

Thanks all. Will take a look at the ones recommended here.
