Recommendations for family stays around the Biarritz area

Hello! We have a week booked in the Dordogne in July but would then like to travel to Biarritz and the surrounding area and stay for a few nights.

I've never been to that area before so would appreciate any recommendations that you could share.

We’d ideally then want to head east and go to around Perpignan for the last part of our holiday.

We’d be driving with two kids (2.5 and 5) who are used to long car trips.

Thanks in advance!

Saint-Jean-de-Luz would be a good choice. The main sandy beach is sheltered and the waves are small. The beach is easily walkable from the town, and there are pedestrianised streets, lots of ice cream shops, playgrounds etc…. It’s quite close to Le Train de la Rhune which is a really nice family day out.

No suggestions sorry. Whereabouts are you staying in dordogne? I was thinking of going back this summer.

Actually I do have a recommendation near there but been a long time since I stayed apparently still nice. Espalette is a lovely town inland. We drove to Biarritz and Hendaye. Also There is a nice lake near there.

Thanks for sharing! I think St Jean de Luz is a good call as we want to be close to the beach but I will def take a look at some inland options like Espelette.

I think the biggest issue we’ll have is getting a good deal on accommodation seeing as we’ve left it quite late. We might not have as much choice as to where to stay as we’d want!

@ZenNudist We’re staying near Saint Felix de Villadeix. We were there last year too and it was very nice although we got quite a bit of rainy weather.

camping ilbiarritz was fab - great buses everywhere so don’t need to worry about parking. Bidart town was lovely and there were 3 fab beaches for body boarding.
