Trying to book for Florida next Easter and horrified!

Sorry to start another Florida thread but didn't want to hijack the one below.

We are planning a trip to Florida next year - April 4th-19th. We have to go on or very close to those dates. Have just been on the Virgin website and there are no flights available for those exact dates. Does this mean they've sold out ALREADY? And if we go the day before it's going to cost us over £4000 (for two adults and two children). Is this the normal price for this time of year? or is it something to do with rising fuel prices?

You have two problems;-

  1. Next April is half term so the prices have been increased to reflect this. Schools here are given the first two weeks of April off regardless of when Easter falls.
  1. Fuel surcharges

The above are both reasons why its going to cost something akin to a kings ransom.

I had a look on BA's website and you can all fly out on the 5th April and return two weeks later for (think you better sit down here - 4.7K - ). If you were to fly out the day before (4/4) each adult airfare is a third more expensive at £980.00 each!. On the 5/4 each adult airfare is £651.00 each.

Dates are extremely important - a day or two either side can shave lots of money off the overall cost. BA's website also shows the price for each individual day; I would look closely at that.

Am mentioned BA have those dates available currently.

I'd call Virgin Atlantic direct, it may be that those dates are completely sold out. However, it is worth checking with them.

If you can avoid weekend travel (this would include Fridays too) I would do so, it saves a lot on the overall cost.

Thanks for doing that Attila - it's as I feared. The problem is that we're booked to visit Growing Minds for DS2 (training centre for autism treatment programmes) from 6th-10th, so flights out are pretty much fixed. Don't think we can go on the 5th, as it won't leave us any time before starting with the week's course, altho I'd probably be able to persuade school to let us go a few days early. we were then going to spend the second week doing Disney.

Tbh it's making us wonder if we can go at all - seems a ridiculous amount of money.

Have you looked at flying into Miami instead? Yes, it is about a 3 hour drive to Orlando but it is a very easy drive and usually works out cheaper.

Or look at Sanford from a local airport. Scottish holiday times are usually different from England so it may be cheaper flying out from say Glasgow.
