London Break and Bank Holidays

Hi. We are thinking of staying in London for a few days but is there much open on Bank Holidays? Also does the Tube operate a different schedule on a Bank Holiday? Thank you 😀

What kind of things are you wanting to do?

Pretty much everything is open - shops, restaurants etc
tubes may run a reduced schedule - check the TFL website

Everything will be open. Might be worth checking TFL website for planned engineering works but there's always an alternative in London - bus, other tube line, overground - or walk! Citymapper app is good to show options.

Everything will be not just open but packed & absolutely heaving.

If you’re planning to go to any of the big museums or galleries, check to see if they do timed entry tickets to cut down on queuing time.

Everything will be open this bank holiday weekend, indeed Sunday will probably be treated like a Saturday by most hospitality places.

If you are thinking this bank holiday weekend be aware it is forecast to be pretty hot, so everywhere outside will be mobbed and the tube is likely to be very warm.

Shopping hours may be more limited but closures only happen over Christmas/NY and Easter BH. There may be some transport engineering works and a Sunday timetable but for August BH it is largely business as usual.

Your main issue may be scheduled engineering works on the trains taking you to London. They often use bank holidays so trains are fewer/replaced with buses.

The OP started the thread in May & I think it got posted on recently by some stupid AI bot, so she might have been talking about the second May bank holiday rather than the August one.
