I am in Greece, Athens though not Crete.
I would expect Crete to be lovely in October.Possibly the occasional cloudy day but the temperatures should be good.If it rains it will be a short rainfall quickly followed by sunny weather again.

I never really get into my "winter" clothes until the end of October and Crete being so much further south than Athens should have better weather. The evenings will be chilly probably but thats all. Look here - www.explorecrete.com/nature/crete-weather.html

My parents go to Crete every year in May/june and end of September mid October and they always have nice weather.

Yup - generally fine - late 60's, poss higher. A bit parched in terms of foliage though, from the long summer.

Thanks for all that. Think we'll squeeze a week in September instead, don't want to risk dodgy weather

We're going to Sensatori resort in Crete. They do family apartments, don't know if that's any help??

We go to Rhodes (very near Crete) every year. Last year we did the last week in October. It was still in the high 70's but we had a couple of short sharp showers!!! All the kids on the complex thought it was great and carried on playing in the swimming pool. Think you will be fine. Do know that the Canary Islands are lovely at that time of the year if that is of any help.

Casper if you go after the children go back to school in September it will also be cheaper - September is still really warm and usually minus the showers
