Ryanair flights to Gran Canaria from Scotland showing sold out

We've been to Gran Canaria the last 2 years in March and both times our flight times/dates have been changed so we have held off booking flights. We've booked accommodation for next March and decided to have a look now that it's May as this is when they notified us of the changes previously.

Anyway I've just looked on the app and it says all flights between November and March are sold out - it does give you the times the flights were meant to be. On the website it doesn't even let you pick these dates. This is for both Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Has anyone seen this before or do you think they're going to stop flying from Scotland to Gran Canaria?

We can book with EasyJet or Jet2 if it comes to it but they're almost £300 more expensive!! And we've actually had a really good experience flying with Ryanair!

They won't be sold out, either they are not flying that route in winter (which is probably unlikely) or they haven't released the winter schedule on that route yet. Ryanair often release their flight schedules a lot later than other airlines.

Just thought it was strange as we have had our flights booked by this time of year, the last 2 years.

I suspect the ongoing Middle East crisis and fluctuations in fuel prices mean that they are being cautious before firming up their schedules.

maftaz · 01/05/2026 19:31

You might already know that they may be holding off for now due to fuel uncertainty at the moment. Ryanair did say though that they were going to cancel a lot of flights, but mostly on low loaded destinations and would consolidate others on their timetable.

Hang in there. It could just be that.

Bjorkdidit · 01/05/2026 19:32

I went from Leeds to Lanzarote with them last November and just looked and far less choice of flights.

I suppose this is the consequences of the conflict in the Middle East and other costs rising. Ryanair have been very very cheap, I've flown to the Canaries for less than the cost of getting a bus to my nearest town once you take off taxes. Their margins must be paper thin. So its not surprising if they change what they offer and/or increase prices.

I've just checked and flights seem to start again in April which makes it even stranger.

Just looked at Budapest for March and it’s the same. Very odd.

That actually makes complete sense. The aviation industry divides the year into two seasons. Summer starts on the last Sunday in March & ends on the last Saturday in October & Winter starts on the last Sunday in October & ends on the last Saturday in March. This coincides with the clocks going forward & back.

Ryanair have not put their Canaries flights on sale for winter 26/27, presumably because they have not yet decided if they will operate, but they have put their summer 27 flights on sale because they definitely plan to operate.

I watch flights a lot, especially with RA as we live in Dublin . I think the fact that April is now showing suggests that they don't intend to fly in March ??
They are always messing around with their schedules .
Earlier this week I noticed our trip to Porto had disappeared from their schedule . received the cancellation email last night .

Plump82 · 01/05/2026 21:53

I have a sneaking suspicion that this is the case @Dublassie purely because they have been available for sale for weeks at this time of year, the previous 2 years!

Dublassie · 01/05/2026 21:57

I actually like RA as they are great value and fly to so many destination but this is one offputting issue ! Hope you get sorted .

Plump82 · 01/05/2026 21:59

I do too. As long as you keep to their rules there's been no issues at all. The list of destinations from Scotland is getting smaller and smaller each year!

Try airhint and see what’s available, put in an alert. They’ll track flights and keep you updated.

I've not heard of that website so thanks for recommending. I've put my dates in and it's only coming up with EasyJet and Jet2

Might be some horse trading going on, wouldn't be the first time MOL has threatened to reduce flights to get airport charges down.

Bjorkdidit · Yesterday 08:04

Interesting point @notimagain. Especially as he has time on his side as most people booking to travel to the Canaries between November and March (except at Christmas and the Easter hols) won't be thinking of booking until much nearer the time. We usually go in both November and February/March and rarely book before about a month in advance.

Plump82 · Yesterday 08:10

I saw the news about Tenerife North but also thought it was because it was a smaller airport. I just had a look at Scotland to Lanzarote, Tenerife South and Fuerteventura and there's flights available for buy for all 3 over the winter months so it looks to me that GC is to be axed. Now to decide whether to book EasyJet now or leave it and hope the prices don't go up further!

@Plump82

Doesn't really help you but what's going on really is a standard MOL/Ryanair tactic...he's used it time and time again to twist airport operators arms up backs, even at big airports in the UK..

For example from 2009:
