We'll go in August and intend to go to Gardaland and will go everywhere by public transport. Cheers!

we have just booked via lastminute to Pescheira. There is a shuttle bus into the town where there is a train and bus station. I think there's a free bus to Gardaland from there. We got a fairly good deal (kids were free) so it was cheaper for a HB hotel than self catering.

Hello again. Do you actually want the town of Garda itself or just one of the towns around Lake Garda?

We stayed in a campsite in Peschiera del Garda, which I liked, but caravan might not be your thing. All the towns along that side of the lake looked lovely.

There is indeed a free bus from Peschiera train station to Gardaland and the other theme parks along there. We went to Aqualand as well.

We are looking for anything at this point. PeaGreene, Do you have a link for your campsite? SInce we won't be driving, I need to see how we get there and, if it's selfcatering, I have to check for shops and distances... Thanks.
And, toomanyprojects, what's a HB hotel? What is your hotel called? Kids free sounds great!

Oddly enough the website I saw for Camping del Garda has disappeared but they have lots of companies using them such as eurocamp which go there. You can book direct and the staff I spoke with had very good English. It's about 15 minutes walk from the train station which has a main line to Verona and Venice - if you can fly to there. We didn't try the local buses so can't comment on those sorry. But you can hire bikes from a couple of places on the roundabout at the bottom of the road from the station.

Shop on site, plus a supermarket about 10 minutes walk away. The town centre, Peschiera del Garda is about 15 minutes walk away. Plenty of restaurants. We didn't try the one on site so can't comment on that. Nice simple campsite though, with good pitches.

There's also Bella Italia and several other sites around the area, but they're on the other side of Peschiera away from the train station.

Is HB half board???

PeaGreene · 23/06/2008 22:28

And we booked with VacanSoleil, not Eurocamp - cheaper. Though no English speaking kids around with VS if that makes a difference to your children.

ChocFudgeCake · 23/06/2008 22:57

Ohh it all sounds very good, links and everything. We will be in some other places before Garda, so we will arrive by train from Milan. I'll check Vacansoleil straightaway. Also, we all speak Italian (DH is Italian) mmmh, no, actually DS2 just mumbles in every language .

I just checked the website and the minimum stay is 4 nights. We can stay only 2 nights and then have to continue our journey to the East. That's why I'm having trouble finding a hotel, during high season they want people to stay minimum 3 nights (or more).

sorry - ChocFudgeCake - just saw your question. Yes it's on a half board basis. We have booked a package through lastminute.com staying at the Parc Hotel Paradiso Resort.

ChocFudgeCake · 30/06/2008 21:29

Thanks!
