Mauritius - help me pick between these resorts

Hello! Planning a trip to Mauritius and I’ve spent hours searching but can’t make a decision. It will be me, DH and 6-year old DS. I’m trying to decide between these two resorts, has anyone stayed at these? Which would you pick? I’m worried about the beach not being that great.

  1. Maritime Resort and Spa
  2. Mauricia Beachcomber

Thanks for your help.

I have not been to either, but we spent three weeks in Mauritius in December. Overall, we found we much preferred other places we've visited (E.g. Thailand, Maldives). All beaches in Mauritius are public and the ones we visited were fairly shallow (but nonetheless beautiful).

We had an apartment with a pool and it was much better value for money than a resort. Also, having a rental car is really useful, it's easy to drive there and you can get out and explore.

We went to Mauritius but did not stay at either of those. We preferred it to Maldives as can explore island and our hotels the beaches were pretty empty, beautiful and although officially public just had hotel guests. We stayed at Sugar Beach and Long Beach and would recommend both those hotels, didn't have young kids with us but there seemed to be activities for them as well as the glass bottom boats, snorkelling with tropical fish, kayaking etc. Food was superb at both. We stayed for 9 days and that was long enough for us. I think some cheaper hotels have issues with dogs but ours were fine.

We hired taxis for the day for exploring which was good value and lovely drivers. Rental would be good option too. Ile aux Aigrette was great.

I would also be careful with the jet fuel situation, you would be better protected with a package. I would not get seperate non refundable accomodation incase there's issues with flights, insurance may not cover.

@Squirrelandhedgehog- thanks we are booking a package. Can I ask if the east was really cold and windy? And was the beach nicer there compared to west? We are going in April now instead of October.
