Lake Balaton Hungary

Looking help with planning a holiday to Lake Balaton. We will be at an event in Budapest and will probably hire a car and drive. But I've no idea how important location is when picking lake Balaton accommodation. I would like to do the wine tasting and teenagers would want some lake inflatables- I understand these to be opposite sides of the lake. Apart from that we would plan to flop on sun loungers for a few days, eat and drink!

Any tips on where we should look? We are 2 adults 3 teens.

Oooh my most favourite place! I used to live in Hungary! Do you want a hotel or an AirBnB? If you have a car you will be able to drive easily to the hot springs in Heviz, where you bob about in a rubber ring, and also to a wine tasting in one of the many vineyards in the area. For a town with a bit of life, I would stay in Balatonfüred or Keszthely. Keszthely has a beautiful castle to look around and walk in the grounds, and also a distinctly dodgy sex waxworks museum. I’ve stayed in hotels at both Balatonfured and Keszthely and felt like I had been transported back to a 1970s package holiday - lots of Germans and Austrians, “entertainment” in the weekend, which was Zsolt with his guitar belting out Europop hits from years gone by. Both have massive buffets, and the food was very good. If you are self catering Balatonfüred is a bit livelier and has more bars and restaurants than Keszthely. Fish and chips is very popular! There are also lots of smaller resorts on the other side of the shore, but I haven’t tried these., apart from a trip to Tihany and a stop for a coffee on the way home.

One of the advantages of the hotels is that you have access to their private “beaches”
