Where’s the nicest place you’ve been in the Caribbean islands? Thinking small hotels or boutique hotels, local restaurants, preferably no cruise ships or package holidaymakers

Kitts and Nevis. Loads to see, nice beaches, great food. The hermitage on Nevis is amazing.

We just went to Negril in Jamaica, went flight only with TUI and then stayed in a small beachfront hotel with approx 25 rooms. Negril has lots of small hotels for independent travellers but it also has lots of tourists, mostly American, not sure if that is really what you are looking for or more reflective of what you are trying to escape from. There are AI hotels In Negril but they are in one section all side by side and the rest of it is much smaller places. It's also quite far from the main tourist attractions of Jamaica. No cruise ships so that was definitely a bonus.

Aruba

I agree with this certainly for solo travellers. Feels much safer than most other Caribbean islands I have travelled to. Although I have loved them all but for solo travel I would say Aruba
